POSITION SUMMARY:

The labor position is the entry level position at the plant. Most of the time this position is for cleaning up around the plant so that we can run operate safely and productively.

RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:

  • Perform a wide variety of duties in general manual laborer work at plants, offices, yards, and quarries. Work will require repetitive heavy lifting, shoveling, handwork, climbing, and performing work at different heights.

  • Assist in any equipment operation and servicing when needed using basic tools to accomplish the work such as shovels, brooms, wheelbarrows, etc.

  • Performs all other tasks not specifically indicated.

  • Comply with company General Conduct and Safety Rules.

  • Knows and understands that you:

  • Must clean and dispose of waste materials, debris, residue from, on top of, under and out of different locations throughout the plant. (i.e. limehouses, roofs, venturi scrubbing systems, basements, silos, bins, storage areas, kilns, mills, screen and screen areas, grates, under conveyor belts, between rollers, crushers, catwalks, tail pulley, trucks, rail cars, tankers, truck paths, rail tracks, driveways, and all yard areas including the quarries and maintenance areas.

  • Must fill in or operate any equipment and assist operators as assigned.

  • May assist drillers, and powder person in their drilling and blasting.

  • Will need to assist in maintenance, repair, and installation of new or rebuilt machinery and equipment.

  • Assist in oiling, greasing, lubricating and servicing all mobile equipment, as well as, stationary machinery and equipment.

  • May be required to cut grass, weeds, trim bushes, and hedges and perform general landscape work.

  • Must clean out and re-brick kilns.

  • May need to help load and unload railcars, trucks, or any other vehicles as assigned.

  • Must be able to operate a forklift both safely and efficiently.

  • Must report and potential operational or safety problems to supervision.

  • Must comply with company, state, and governmental health and safety regulations.

  • Must operate the water truck when needed.

  • Can operate the sweeper or vacuum truck.

Safe Quality Food (SQF)

  • Ensure a SQF workplace and follow regulatory compliance with Federal FDA - Food Modernization Safety Act (CFR Code of Federal Regulations Title 21, Part 507).

  • Support Environmental Health and Safety, as well as SQF initiatives and awareness programs.

  • Be a leader and promoter of employee safety and SQF culture.

  • Following completion of SQF training, demonstrate understanding of expected safety, SQF performance and Food Safety Culture.

  • Complete periodic SQF training(s).

  • Each site location will ensure training is conducted for new employees and continued for existing employees.

  • Employees will actively participate in audits for regulatory, safety, SQF and environmental compliance at the site.

ATTRIBUTES:

Must be:

  • Capable of working shift work, overtime or seven days a week, if needed.

  • Able to communicate verbally and written.

  • Capable of performing the essential job duties required of this job.

  • Able to abide by all Chemical Lime Company policies and procedures.

  • Able to work as a team member and work independently.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Must be physically able to perform work assigned.

  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.

  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 150 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and accessing tunnels.

  • Will be working at times in covered environment but mainly in a lime/mineral environment.

  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Lime/Mineral Particles.

  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE: Prior experience in an industrial processing and packaging environment
