Job description

The Amazon Center for Quantum Computing (CQC) team is seeking a Manufacturing Shop Machinist with knowledge of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining. This is an entry-level hardware position designed for candidates who have completed a precision manufacturing program. In this role, you will support the CNC machine shop with parts production and day-to-day shop operations in a dynamic prototype environment, directly contributing to the manufacturing needs for cryogenic hardware.
The focus of the role is the operation of support machinery for the manufacturing shop, including 3D printers and laser engravers, plus manual lathes, mills, and grinders

Primary output is from 3- and 5-axis CNC machining centers. Additional duties include direct collaboration with shop programmers. Development opportunities are expected with CAM programming, fixture creation and setup, and tool selection and setup.

The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional growth, with a solid foundation in support machinery. Effective collaboration is critical in this role, with the expectation to partner with cross-functional teams in support of cryogenic hardware assembly.
Key job responsibilities
- Coordinate with external vendors to oversee remote services
- Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of equipment and lab environments
- Complete work orders, document maintenance results, and review and update technical drawings and related records
- Conduct periodic safety audits and implement corrective actions as identified
- Adhere to established procedures and documentation standards, and develop new documentation as required
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support team and operational goals
A day in the life
You will work in a research development lab to support scientists and engineers develop new quantum technologies. You will be exposed to research equipment, technical documentation, external vendors, and the day-to-day operations of a critical laboratory environment
