Position Summary

The Fabricator operates fabricating machines such as cutoff saws, shears, presses, and punches that cut shape and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes and structures by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Qualifications

Level I:

  • Operates and adjust fabrication machines
  • Perform standard and repetitive operations of fabrication
  • Entry level knowledge of operations including cutoff saws, shears, presses, and punches that cut shape and bend metal plates, etc.
  • Ability to follow written instructions and read basic blueprint specifications

Level II:

  • Sets-up, adjusts, and checks machines for the days part production
  • Able to perform a series of progressive fabrication operation
  • Operates and adjusts fabrication equipment to exacting standards and specifications.
  • Check parts conformance to specification
  • Intermediate knowledge of fabrication techniques and methods for fabrication.
  • Works from finished instructions, operational data and machine setup instructions
  • Intermediate level knowledge of operations including drilling, cutting, etc.
  • Ability to follow written instructions and read basic blueprint specifications
  • Two plus years of experience.

Level III:

  • Has broad knowledge of fabrication and machining techniques
  • Able to perform a series of progressive fabrication operation
  • Able to operate two or machines at the same time with little to no help
  • Capable of intermediate to advanced setup machines with no supervision
  • Capable of fabricating parts with close and exact tolerances and specification requiring a high degree of skill.
  • Check parts conformance to specification
  • Ability to follow written instructions and read technical blueprint specifications
  • Four plus years of experience

In addition to

  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
  • Sets stops or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule, or template
  • Observes machine operation to detect part defects or machine malfunction
  • Measures parts dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation
  • Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust or scale from parts
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as borers, grinders, and shapers.
  • Verifies conformance of finished part to specifications
  • Follow company safety procedures and embrace a culture of safety within the machine shop
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a manufacturing facility, with drill presses, metal cutting, and other industrial equipment. The employee is regularly exposed to vibrations. Noise levels fluctuate from moderate to high requiring ear protection. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must wear appropriate personal safety protection equipment. This equipment will vary based upon the work location and type of work being performed but often will include safety glasses, closed-toed/heeled shoes, and sometimes may include protective clothing.


Physical Requirements: All Levels

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Stand, sit, walk and reach for long periods of time
  • Repetitive hand and wrist motions while handling large and small parts
  • Constantly and repetitively assembly products, use of light machinery
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, reach above and below desk level, talk, hear and communicate accurate information
  • Observe details at a close range
  • Moves items and products weighing up to 50 pounds across short distances
  • Easily move from place to place in a manufacturing facility
  • Adhere to all safety & quality requirements
  • Ability to pass pre-employment & random drug screenings
