What is an entry level project manager?

An entry level project manager is a professional who assists in planning, executing, and closing projects under the supervision of more experienced managers. They typically help coordinate tasks, communicate with team members, track project progress, and ensure deadlines are met. Entry level project managers often work on smaller projects or specific aspects of larger projects, gaining experience and developing their skills for more advanced roles. Strong organizational and communication skills are important in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level project manager?

To thrive as an Entry Level Project Manager, you need fundamental knowledge of project management principles, organizational abilities, and typically a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Project, Trello, or Asana and basic understanding of methodologies such as Agile or Waterfall are often required, and a CAPM certification can be beneficial. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate stakeholders and manage project tasks effectively. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering projects on time, within scope, and building the foundation for further career growth.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level project managers, and how can they overcome them?

Entry-level project managers often face challenges such as managing competing priorities, adapting to new team dynamics, and understanding project management tools and methodologies. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

We are seeking a motivated early-career Infrastructure Project Manager to support the planning, coordination, and execution of facility requirements for aerospace test equipment programs. In this role, you will work alongside senior program managers and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure that facility infrastructure โ€” including power, environmental controls, structural supports, and utility services โ€” meets the needs of complex aerospace testing operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career at the intersection of facilities engineering, project management, and aerospace test operations.

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities
  • Facility Requirements Support: Assist in defining, documenting, and tracking facility requirements (mechanical, electrical, structural, environmental) for test equipment installations and modifications.
  • Project Coordination: Support development and maintenance of project schedules, budgets, and action item trackers for facility modification projects to include development of custom tracking/organizational software.
  • Cross-Functional Communication: Coordinate with test engineering, facilities engineering, construction teams, and EH&S to track deliverables and maintain alignment with program milestones.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare project status reports, meeting minutes, risk logs, and change requests for review by senior leadership.
  • Vendor Coordination: Support procurement activities, track vendor deliverables, and assist with contractor oversight for facility construction and modification work.
  • Commissioning Support: Assist with facility commissioning activities, punch list management, and turnover documentation to support operational readiness.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve processes, templates, and tools used by the project management team.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Experience effectively managing a substantial and time-sensitive workload
  • Experience with Microsoft office tools like Word, Excel, Outlook, and OneNote, or experience with computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience managing multiple projects and priorities across teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • 1โ€“3 years of professional experience (internships, co-ops, or entry-level roles in project coordination, engineering, or construction)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in construction or project management
  • Knowledge of project management tools and methodologies (agile to waterfall)
  • Internship or co-op experience in aerospace, defense, or facilities/construction environments
  • CAPM certification or working toward PMP
  • Coursework or basic knowledge of facility systems (HVAC, electrical distribution, structural loading, compressed gases)
  • Familiarity with aerospace test environments (e.g., thermal vacuum, vibration, EMC/EMI, or propulsion testing)
  • Experience with CAD or Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools
  • Knowledge of EH&S principles in industrial or laboratory settings
