What is an entry level programmer?

As an entry-level programmer, you use software programming languages to create and maintain applications for in-house, proprietary use or clients. You go through an onboarding process to learn your company’s code base and their processes for software development. You work on a team with other programmers and developers, and your job duties include writing code to develop software according to required specifications, testing and debugging code, creating and rolling out fixes, and publishing finished code to the production server. As you gain experience and your skillset expands, you can take on jobs with more autonomy and responsibility.

What types of projects and tasks can an entry level programmer typically expect to work on during their first year?

As an entry level programmer, you will often be assigned to support tasks such as debugging code, writing simple scripts, developing small features, and assisting with software testing. You may also update documentation and collaborate with more experienced developers on larger projects. This hands-on experience helps you become familiar with company coding standards, version control systems, and agile development processes while building a foundation for more complex assignments in the future. Teamwork and communication are important, as you’ll regularly interact with other programmers, QA testers, and sometimes project managers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Programmer, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, algorithms, and at least one programming language, often demonstrated by a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, basic database management, and development environments is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with team members and learn quickly. These skills are crucial for successfully building, testing, and maintaining software while adapting to evolving project requirements.

What is the difference between Entry Level Programmer vs Software Developer?

Job description

Entry-Level Civil Engineer (EIT)

Reeve & Associates

Riverdale, Utah

If you're starting your civil engineering career and want a place where you'll learn from experienced engineers, get on real projects early, and have a clear path toward your PE, Reeve & Associates offers a strong foundation to build on with a firm that has been a fixture in the western U.S. for decades.

Reeve & Associates is a multi-disciplinary planning, engineering, and surveying firm founded in 1945. We handle civil engineering, land surveying, structural and traffic engineering, land and master planning, landscape architecture, and aerial mapping, all under one roof. Our work spans multi-family, commercial, industrial, and public projects across northern Utah and the western states, and we've built a reputation for fast, practical turnaround that turns first-time clients into long-term ones.

As our civil team continues to grow, we are seeking an Entry-Level Civil Engineer (EIT) who is motivated, curious, and ready to learn alongside experienced professionals.

Why Work at Reeve & Associates

At Reeve, entry-level engineers are treated as future leaders, not just extra hands. You'll work closely with licensed engineers who are genuinely invested in teaching you the craft, and because surveying, structural, traffic, and landscape are all in-house, you'll see how a project comes together from every angle. From your first projects, you'll get exposure to the full lifecycle of civil work, from concept and design through permitting and construction.

This is a family-owned firm that has been around since 1945 and is led by a licensed civil and structural engineer who came up through the business himself. That shows up in how the place runs: real mentorship, a collaborative atmosphere, and the tools and technology to learn on without the bureaucracy of a giant national firm.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with site civil design, including grading and drainage, utility layout, and infrastructure improvements
  • Support project engineers with plan preparation, calculations, and technical documentation
  • Help prepare preliminary plats and site improvement plans, the work Reeve is known for turning around quickly
  • Learn to produce construction documents in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Participate in site visits and evaluations to understand real-world conditions
  • Coordinate with in-house surveyors, planners, and structural and traffic engineers
  • Help prepare permit applications and reports as projects move through entitlements

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • EIT certification, or eligibility to obtain it
  • Interest in land development, site design, and infrastructure work
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and grow professionally
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation
  • Health, wellness, and retirement benefits
  • Comprehensive training and support, plus mentorship toward your PE
  • Cutting-edge tools and technology, including 3D point cloud aerial mapping
  • On-site fitness gym and pickleball court, free snacks and drinks, and company breakfasts
  • Family events, company parties, and a paid holiday break
  • A collaborative, multi-disciplinary team where you'll learn fast and your work will matter

Start Building Your Career

At Reeve & Associates, you'll gain hands-on experience, real mentorship, and the chance to work on projects that get built. If you're ready to start your civil engineering career in northern Utah with a firm that invests in its people, we encourage you to apply.
