All faculty at Georgia State are, as part of their essential job duties, expected to: (1) be physically present on-campus as needed to contribute to Georgia State's in-person educational experience, and (2) be able to teach in each of the following instructional modalities - in-person, online, or blended/hybrid - as determined by their Department Chair or Dean.

The College of Law faculty is a collegial and accomplished community of scholars and teachers. Faculty members have a tangible impact on legal education and on law and policy. Faculty members regularly publish in leading law reviews and peer-reviewed journals, author books and book chapters, and appear in national and international news outlets. Scholarship is supported through research assistance, summer stipends, travel support, and awards. The College of Law also features innovative and nationally renowned programs in constitutional law, health law, access to justice, legal analytics, metropolitan and urban growth, and sports and entertainment law.

Georgia State University College of Law invites candidates to apply for a tenured or tenure-track professor position in constitutional law and join the Emmet J. Bondurant Center for Constitutional Law, Practice, and Democracy (described below). Specifically, the College of Law seeks to hear from both entry-level and lateral candidates who have established academic reputations in constitutional law. A particular interest and expertise in voting rights, election law, and/or the law of democracy is preferred but not required. The successful candidate will begin no later than the 2027-2028 academic year. A successful candidate will be expected to teach in the constitutional law curriculum, make meaningful scholarly contributions, and participate actively in the life of Georgia State Law and the Bondurant Center. The successful candidate will also advise students, helping them develop professional identity and prepare for impactful and meaningful careers.

The Center Mission Statement:

The mission of the Emmet J. Bondurant Center for Constitutional Law, Practice, and Democracy is to advance the Constitution's aims of preventing arbitrary power and protecting democratic freedoms. The Center will seek to create the conditions for liberty, equality, and the rule of law to flourish within a pluralistic society. The Center will facilitate critical research, public education, and engagement on issues of constitutional significance, particularly in the areas of voting rights, election law, and democratic governance.

Goals of The Center:

1. Academic Leadership in Constitutional Law: To establish the Center as a premier institution for the study of constitutional law, bringing together leading scholars to engage with emerging legal and democratic challenges.

2. Practical Engagement and Litigation: To integrate academic scholarship with practical legal work, supporting the production of amicus briefs, engaging with judicial bodies, and advancing policy discussions around constitutional law.

3. Education and Experiential Learning: To provide law students with hands-on experience in constitutional law and democratic governance through fellowships, clinics, and collaborative research projects.

4. Public Engagement: To serve as a nonpartisan, accessible voice in the broader public discourse on constitutional issues, providing a forum for community dialogue and educational outreach on critical legal topics.

An individual hired as an Assistant Professor will have a substantial piece of original legal scholarship and a research agenda indicating that the candidate will develop a body of work that attains national recognition and will support a successful application for tenure. Additional qualifications include visiting assistant professor positions or academic fellowships, clerkships, successful legal practice, and/or strong law school performance, including membership on academic journals.

An individual hired as an Associate Professor with tenure will have substantial original legal scholarship and a research agenda indicating that the candidate has developed a nationally recognized body of work and has obtained, or is close to obtaining, support for a successful tenure application. Additional qualifications include associate professor positions, strong performance in law school, and membership in academic journals.

An individual hired as a Professor with tenure will have a well-established original legal scholarship and a research agenda indicating that the candidate has developed a substantial body of work that is nationally recognized and has obtained tenure. Additional qualifications include professor positions, strong law school performance and membership in academic journals.

All applicants for any rank must have a Juris Doctor (J.D.), Doctor of the Science of Law (J.S.D.), Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.), LL.M. (Master of Laws), or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from an accredited law school (or foreign equivalent).

A criminal background check is required.

Law Academic/9-month appointment. Standard work hours to support required workload of 34% Teaching, 33% Research and 33% service.

Georgia State Law faculty may be required to work non-standard hours including day, evening, online, blended/hybrid and weekends as determined by the Dean.
