The Entry-Level Process Engineer focuses on the design and engineering of manufacturing facility and equipment, supporting facility infrastructure and critical utility systems. Typical tasks include execution of engineering calculations including heat transfer and pressure drop calculations. The Entry-Level Process Engineer is responsible for supporting the documentation of the process design scope in coordination with other disciplines. The Entry-Level Process Engineer may support field installation teams and execute construction site observations. This role is expected to work closely with other architects, engineers and designers, as well as other internal and external team members to ensure a coordinated, constructible and complete design.  

Core Activities 

  • Supports the documentation of the process design scope in coordination with other disciplines.  

  • Works closely with other architects, engineers and designers, as well as other internal and external team members to ensure a coordinated, constructible and complete design.  

  • Self-checks own work but communicates often with peers and Supervisor.  

  • Able to work on one or more projects concurrently and manage time effectively. 

  • Solves complex problems under the direction and supervision of a mentor or supervisor 

  • Project work may include all levels of design such as studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration.  

  • Works on matters of basic complexity in a support role under the direction of more experienced Process Engineers.

  • Block and Process Flow Diagrams  

  • User Requirements Specifications  

  • Equipment List  

  • Equipment General Arrangements  

  • Equipment Datasheets  

  • Utility Summary  

  • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 0–3 years of relevant engineering experience through internships, co-ops, research, or professional employment.
  • Basic understanding of engineering principles, calculations, and problem-solving methods.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively on multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Experience with process design, including material and energy balances, process modeling, and equipment sizing calculations.
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, hydraulic modeling, and heat transfer principles.
  • Familiarity with chemistry and/or biochemistry concepts.
  • Experience performing engineering design calculations under the guidance of a licensed engineer.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with engineering software applications, including process modeling, design, and calculation tools.
