Job description

Systems Safety Engineer II in  GAC Savannah


Unique Skills:

On any given day:

-Assess and model functionality of aircraft systems and their intersystem dependencies.

-Assign aircraft functions to supporting systems

-Assess the impact of system functional losses to the aircraft

-Assess system design changes for their functional effect on the aircraft -Use cause and effect techniques to classify the importance of components based on failure effect to the aircraft-Calculate probability of failure occurrence using Boolean Algebra via Fault Tree analysis

-Work with system design engineers to better system operation

-Become proficient in various aircraft system designs.

-Manage requirements through capturing, tracing and analyzing.

-Analyze aircraft wiring  to understand the system and aircraft effect for loss of wire function.

-Assess aircraft compartment zones for various specific hazards such as fire, fuel and smoke due to ignition sources.

-Assess the impact to the aircraft from loss of components due to an engine blade failure.

Desired Skills and Abilities:

  • Applicant shall have the desire to work on complex, challenging and multidisciplinary problems and provide solutions that are highly innovative and ingenious.
  • Familiarity with hazard identification, causal, and safety/risk analysis concepts are a plus. 
  • Familiarity with Aircraft systems, aircraft pilot experience or flight crew experience is desirable.
  • Experience with integration of aircraft electronic and mechanical systems a plus. 
  • Desire to learn Aircraft and System Safety Engineering analysis techniques and processes associated with ARP4761, including but not limited to, functional hazard assessment (FHA), system safety assessment (SSA) and particular risk assessment (PRA) from initial requirements through requirement verifications. 
  • Familiarity with fault tree analysis, failure mode effect analysis, and common cause analysis to aircraft systems desired. 
  • Applicant should communicate well and openly with other engineers.  Should be inquisitive and have an aptitude to investigate problems. 
  • Excellent technical written and oral communication skills.  Familiarity with MS Office application required, relational databases and SharePoint is a plus.


 

Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree Engineering or a related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job. 18 months related Engineering experience. Experience credit will be considered for related advance degrees limited to 2 years for Master's and 4 years for PhD in field applicable to the job position. Position Purpose: Performs engineering work related to the investigation and the solution of technical problems associated with research, design, development, service and manufacture of Gulfstream aircraft.
Job Description
Principle Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Functions:
  1. Solves typical engineering problems within assigned discipline .
  2. Provides technical assistance to engineering staff and contributes to completion of project milestones .
  3. Responsible for a complex engineering assignment, or a full project of lesser complexity .
  4. Follows established schedules while developing plans for engineering assignments .
  5. Obtains appropriate level of supervisor approvals for work accuracy and adequacy .
  6. Proficiently applies company/organization policies and procedures .
Additional Functions:
  1. Actively works to improve daily processes, and ensures all work meets customer requirements .
  2. Maintains a current and up-to-date knowledge of developments and application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in assigned field of expertise .
Perform other duties as assigned. Other Requirements:
  1. The level of technical skills and abilities appropriate for this grade will be established by each discipline.
  2. Applies knowledge to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity, using a combination of judgment with defined practices and procedures.
  3. Failure to achieve results, or erroneous decisions or recommendations, may cause delays in program schedules and/or allocation of additional resources.
  4. Ability to convey technical concepts in both written and verbal formats.
  5. Contacts are primarily within the organization, with occasional customer contacts on routine issues.
  6. Works under general supervision for routine tasks of minor complexity.
  7. With supervision/mentorship, can coordinate the activities for lower level engineering staff.
This job requires one to be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
