Job Title: Design Technician

Location: Midland, ON
Department: Pre-Construction


Position Overview

Join PrimeFab as our Design Technician supporting the PrimePanel pre-construction process by assisting with drafting, BIM coordination, and estimating tasks. This is a multifunctional role ideal for detail-oriented, tech-savvy individuals who enjoy working with architectural drawings and technical documentation. You'll contribute to accurate designs, quantity takeoffs, and cost analysis while collaborating closely with our design and production teams to deliver high-quality prefabricated solutions. Entry-level candidates with drafting/BIM knowledge and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply, you'll play a key role in shaping smarter, faster, better construction solutions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret architectural and structural drawings for panelized construction projects.
  • Assist in creating and reviewing shop drawings and BIM models for wall, floor, and roof panels.
  • Make informed assumptions about how designs will be panelized to complete accurate estimates.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and estimating for material and labor.
  • Assist with modelling structural systems and specifying engineered wood products.
  • Collaborate with designers, estimators, and production teams to ensure alignment of scope and pricing.
  • Identify design concerns and generate RFIs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support value engineering initiatives.


Qualifications

  • Experience in drafting or BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar).
  • Understanding of architectural drawings and building systems.
  • Familiarity with estimating practices and material takeoffs.
  • Knowledge of wood construction and standard building practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.


Assets (Nice-to-have)

  • Experience with panelized construction or prefabrication industries.
  • Knowledge of engineered wood products and specifying software such as Forte or Javelin.
