The Business Process Specialist is responsible for analyzing, optimizing, and supporting operational processes to improve efficiency, control effectiveness, service delivery, regulatory compliance, and business outcomes. The role serves as a subject matter expert in operational processes, data analysis, reporting, and technology-enabled solutions, partnering across business units to identify opportunities for automation, process enhancement, and operational excellence. The incumbent leverages technical expertise in data analytics, reporting, process design, and workflow automation to support strategic initiatives, operational effectiveness, and continuous improvement objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Process Management

  • Support and manage end-to-end operational processes across multiple business functions.
  • Analyze operational workflows to identify inefficiencies, risks, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, procedures, process maps, and operating guidelines.
  • Ensure operational activities are performed in accordance with established policies, controls, service standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and support for operational processes and business initiatives.

Data Analytics & Business Intelligence

  • Develop and maintain operational dashboards, scorecards, and management reporting using Power BI, Excel, and other reporting tools.
  • Utilize SQL and Python to analyze operational data, identify trends, investigate issues, and support decision-making.
  • Perform data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance activities to ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Build and maintain data models to support operational performance measurement and business insights.
  • Generate actionable insights and recommendations based on data analysis and operational trends.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Lead and support process reviews to identify opportunities for:
    • Automation
    • Workflow optimization
    • Enhanced controls

    • Better operational tracking and reporting
  • Apply process improvement methodologies to streamline operations and reduce manual effort.
  • Develop business requirements and partner with technology teams to implement process enhancements.
  • Design and implement automation solutions using tools such as Python, Power Automate, SQL, and reporting technologies.
  • Monitor and measure process improvement outcomes and benefits realization.

Operational Excellence, Risk Management & Business Enablement

  • Establish and monitor KPIs, SLAs, operational metrics, and reporting frameworks to measure performance, productivity, quality, and risk.
  • Analyze operational trends and data to identify opportunities, mitigate challenges, and support informed business decisions.
  • Support risk management, control monitoring, audit activities, and remediation efforts to ensure compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate process documentation, procedures, and governance practices aligned with business and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a business lead for operational systems, reporting platforms, and technology initiatives, including system enhancements, testing, and implementation support.
  • Partner with technology, data, risk, compliance, finance, and operations teams to define requirements, improve processes, and deliver business solutions.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships and communicate complex operational and technical concepts clearly to support strategic initiatives, transformation efforts, and successful implementation of business priorities.

  • Experience using Python for automation, analytics, reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, data structures, and data quality management practices.
  • Experience with process mapping, workflow analysis, and business process documentation.
  • Strong understanding of KPI development, operational metrics, and performance reporting.

Preferred

  • Experience with Ingenium or other policy administration/operational platforms.
  • Experience with Power Automate, workflow tools, or robotic process automation (RPA) solutions.
  • Experience with database management, ETL processes, and enterprise reporting environments.
  • Knowledge of business analysis methodologies and change management practices.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled operational solutions and advanced analytics.

Education & Experience

  • Post Secondary Technology degree.
  • Experience in operational departments, business process management, business analysis, data analytics, or operational excellence roles.
  • Experience supporting operational transformation, automation, process improvement, or technology initiatives.
  • Proven ability to leverage data and technology to improve operational performance and business outcomes.

Salary:

$45,500.00 - $84,500.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group's total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
