Compensation Range: $23.58 - $35.67
  • Compensation is based on experience, with a range reflecting entry-level candidates through those with 15+ years of experience. Eligible positions may also qualify for additional compensation with applicable shift, weekend, certification, or other differentials.

Additional Compensation Differential Opportunities:
  • Licensed Positions: NOC Shift (7:00 PM-7:00 AM): +$3.50/hour. | Weekend Shift (12:00 AM Saturday-11:59 PM Sunday): +$3.00/hour.
  • Non-Licensed Positions: NOC Shift (7:00 PM-7:00 AM): +$3.00/hour. | Weekend Shift (12:00 AM Saturday-11:59 PM Sunday): +$2.00/hour.

JOB SUMMARY
The Oncology Pharmacy Technician supports pharmacists in the preparation, handling, and distribution of medications for oncology patients, including chemotherapy and other hazardous medications. This position plays a critical role in ensuring medications are compounded accurately and safely in accordance with USP <797>, USP <800>, and organizational policies.
The Oncology Pharmacy Technician assists with sterile compounding, medication preparation, inventory management, and regulatory compliance while maintaining the highest standards of safety for patients and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Sterile Compounding & Chemotherapy PreparationAssist pharmacists in preparing and compounding sterile and hazardous medications, including chemotherapy, using proper aseptic technique and equipment. Follow USP <797> and <800> standards, including appropriate garbing, cleanroom procedures, labeling, and documentation.
Safety & ComplianceAdhere to all hazardous drug handling, PPE, and spill management protocols. Maintain a clean, compliant compounding environment and promptly report any safety concerns or discrepancies.
Medication Distribution & InventorySupport medication preparation, dispensing, and delivery for oncology patients. Monitor inventory, including stock levels, expiration dates, storage requirements, and assist with ordering and receiving supplies.
Documentation & Administrative SupportMaintain accurate compounding logs and records. Enter and update medication information in the pharmacy system and support pharmacists with documentation and reconciliation tasks.
CollaborationCoordinate with pharmacists, nurses, and infusion staff to ensure timely medication preparation and communicate any delays, shortages, or concerns impacting patient care.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Active Pharmacy Technician license/registration as required by state law.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB or equivalent) preferred.

  • Previous hospital pharmacy experience required.
  • Sterile compounding experience required.
  • Chemotherapy compounding experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of and proficient skill in sterile compounding techniques and cleanroom procedures, including hazardous drug compounding.
  • Knowledge and understanding of USP <797> and USP <800> regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication preparation.
  • Ability to work in a high-precision, safety-sensitive environment.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
