Medical Scribe

Position Summary

Mountain Valley Orthopedics is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Medical Scribe to work directly alongside a busy Sports Medicine Orthopedic Surgeon. The Medical Scribe is responsible for accurately documenting patient encounters in real time within the AthenaOne Electronic Medical Record (EMR), allowing the physician to focus on providing exceptional patient care.

The ideal candidate will need to have scribe experience or be a pre-med student and demonstrate exceptional listening and documentation skills, and thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment. This position requires professionalism, discretion, and the ability to anticipate physician documentation needs while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and confidentiality.

Schedule: Wednesday-8-5pm in East Stroudsburg and Milford(twice monthly)

Friday- 8-5pm in East Stroudsburg

*Schedule is subject to change based on Physician daily patient schedule

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accompany the physician during all patient encounters and accurately document the medical record in real time using the AthenaOne Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Document complete patient histories, chief complaints, history of present illness (HPI), review of systems (ROS), physical examinations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
  • Record orthopedic-specific findings including but no limited to the following:
  • Sports injuries
  • Fractures
  • Joint pain
  • Tendon and ligament injuries
  • Post-operative follow-up visits
  • Workers' Compensation documentation
  • Document in-office procedures including but not limited to:
  • Joint aspirations
  • Corticosteroid injections
  • PRP injections
  • Fracture care
  • Casting and splinting
  • Brace fittings
  • Enter physician-directed orders, referrals, prescriptions, imaging requests, and laboratory orders into AthenaOne for physician review and signature.
  • Ensure documentation supports accurate coding and billing.
  • Maintain current knowledge of orthopedic terminology, anatomy, surgical procedures, and sports medicine protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, clinical staff, and administrative personnel.
  • Maintain strict HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality.
  • Complete all documentation by the end of each clinic session.
  • Assist with physician workflow to improve efficiency and patient throughput.
  • Travel to Mountain Valley Orthopedics office locations as needed to support physician schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and orthopedic conditions.
  • Previous experience using the AthenaOne Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent typing skills (minimum 60 WPM preferred).
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical setting.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Valid Pennsylvania driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Willingness to travel between Mountain Valley Orthopedics office locations, including Brodheadsville, Tobyhanna, and Milford, based on physician scheduling and business needs.

Preferred

  • Experience working directly with an Orthopedic Surgeon or Sports Medicine Physician.
  • Medical Scribe or Pre-Med Student
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field.

  • Comprehensive understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Familiarity with sports medicine injuries and rehabilitation.
