Purpose of Classification
Performs entry-level technical work in support of the operation, maintenance, and development of the Utility Department SCADA system. Work involves assisting with monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining SCADA systems, PLCs, and related instrumentation under close supervision while gaining hands-on experience and technical proficiency.
Supervision Received and Exercised
This position is classified as a exempt, at-will, full-time position.Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Senior SCADA Technician or assigned senior staff. The SCADA Technician is expected to follow established procedures while developing technical skills, judgment, and knowledge of SCADA systems.
Essential Functions
- Assist with monitoring SCADA system performance and alarms.
- Support troubleshooting of SCADA networks, PLCs, and instrumentation.
- Assist with installation, setup, and basic programming of PLCs and field devices.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on SCADA components.
- Assist with network equipment setup (switches, routers, modems) under supervision.
- Support firmware updates, patches, and system backups.
- Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation of work performed.
- Assist in maintaining SCADA databases, asset inventories, and configurations.
- Observe and participate in system diagnostics and problem resolution.
- Support senior technicians with field work at lift stations, plants, and wells.
- Learn SCADA software, control strategies, and communication protocols.
- Assist with responding to internal service requests and operational issues.
- Participate in training related to SCADA, PLCs, networking, and instrumentation.
Additional Duties:
Performs additional related duties as assigned and/or required.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in electronics, information systems, or related field preferred and three (3) years of related experience to include experience with PLC programming, SCADA or DCS programming experience.Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS
Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST)Certification through the International Society of Automation (ISA)
