Work outdoors in some of the community's most beautiful parks as a Seasonal Park Maintenance Laborer. This hands-on role involves physical work like landscaping, irrigation, and general maintenance, offering a great way to stay active while building practical skills. Position Summary: Under the direction of the Park Maintenance Supervisors, perform a variety of entry-level horticulture, turf management, and arbor culture duties in the construction, maintenance and repair of City parks and cemetery facilities; perform semi-skilled maintenance duties; perform grounds maintenance duties; maintain records related to work performed. Essential Duties: Perform a variety of entry-level horticulture, turf management, and arbor culture duties in the construction, maintenance and repair of City parks and cemetery facilities; perform semi-skilled maintenance duties. Perform semi-skilled duties to landscape and maintain parks and cemetery facilities assisting other City maintenance personnel as assigned.

Participate in the installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation systems; participate in building construction, masonry, and playground installation projects. Assist and participate in the pruning of trees and shrubs within accepted pruning practices and guidelines; execute turf management duties including mowing, fertilizing, mechanical an chemical weed control, aerating, thatching, over seeding, clipping and leaf removal as directed. Assist in the maintenance and care of City parks and the cemetery as directed, including maintaining park and cemetery restrooms.

Prepare and maintain records and reports related to work performed. Operate and maintain a variety of equipment used in the grounds maintenance trades. Perform a variety of seasonal grounds maintenance duties such as mowing, edging, leaf removal, snow removal, deicing of stairways and sidewalks, and the installation and removal of seasonal decorations; assist with the winterization and start up on irrigation systems as necessary.

Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or G.E.D. and at least six (6) months or one (1) season performing related work or sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above

Knowledge & Abilities: KNOWLEDGE OF: Operation and proper maintenance of tools, equipment, materials, procedures and machinery used in the horticulture, turf management and arbor culture and park maintenance trades. Oral and written communication skills. Basic health and safety practices.

Proper lifting techniques. Ability to learn proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies. ABILITY TO: Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair in trade areas.

Work independently with little direction or as a member of a crew. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: Subject to indoor, outdoor and shop environments: to driving from site to site to conduct work; exposure to pesticides, fertilizers and other industrial chemicals; to seasonal heat, cold, temperature changes and extreme weather conditions; and to noise from equipment operation. Physical demands include heavy lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds; standing and walking for extended periods of time; climbing and bending at the waist; walking over rough and uneven surfaces; crawling, kneeling, reaching, pulling, pushing; climbing ladders and working at heights; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate power tools and equipment; and sight to observe and effect needed repairs. Exposure to working on ladders or scaffolding; working in cramped or restrictive work chambers; working around and with heavy machinery having moving parts; fumes from vehicles and equipment operation; dust, dirt, oil/grease, gases and pollen.
