Job description

Title: Mechanical Engineer - Entry Level

Location:     GE Transportation (A Wabtec Company) -  Kansas City, MO

Job Description:

The Design Engineer (DE) is responsible for the technical/engineering of the assigned projects in terms of scope, timely delivery, quality, and compliance.  The DE will interface with respective Internal and External businesses and suppliers to execute assigned projects. The candidate should have a solid engineering background and proven experience with leading various manufacturing and assembly projects.  Additional design experience with locomotives and off-highway vehicles a plus.

Essential Responsibilities:

-   Works within defined parameters to make decisions and apply concepts to issues of high complexity.

-   Provides direction and assistance to the engineering team in order to meet assigned objectives.

-   Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

-   Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

-   Develops and fulfills the engineering planning for the assigned projects.

-   Attends/leads customer meetings (kick off, toll gates and final close out etc.).

-   Supports the advanced design and development of mechanical components.

-   Drive cross-functional teams to execute on critical project milestones, including but not limited to, Design Reviews, material orders, prototype builds, field testing and launch.


Desired Skills:

-   Experience with managing multiple projects simultaneously.

-   Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.

-   Experience with GD&T, general mfg processes, tooling and Six Sigma.

-   Knowledge of mechanical design and advanced manufacturing processes.

-   Experience working in ANSYS/COSMOS and/or other commercially available FEA programs as well as 3D modeling (UG or Solid Works), a plus.

-   Knowledge of Reliability data analysis through statistical modeling.

-   Familiarity with hydraulic and or thermal systems a bonus skill set.


Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
