Are you a motivated Civil, or Electrical Engineering graduate ready to launch your career in the power utility industry? Cal Engineering Solutions, a DRG company, is an established engineering and consulting firm supporting medium to highvoltage electrical distribution systems across the utility sector. We are seeking detailoriented, techsavvy EntryLevel Distribution Engineers who are eager to learn, grow, and contribute to essential infrastructure projects that power communities.

This role offers the opportunity to work on realworld utility distribution projects while developing specialized skills in engineering design, estimating, and industryleading software. It is an excellent fit for recent graduates or earlycareer professionals looking to build a strong technical foundation within a structured and supportive engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering analyses and project layouts in accordance with company and utility standards.
  • Develop complete design packages for distribution line work, including:
  • Maintenance pole and equipment replacements
  • Overhead and underground reconductoring
  • Capacity and reliability system improvements
  • Obtain jointpole agreements and coordinate with external stakeholders as required.
  • Initiate rightofway procedures and prepare applications for licenses, permits, jointuse approvals, and other required documentation.
  • Utilize specialized software tools, design programs, and job aids to produce accurate, compliant design packages.
  • Support engineering teams with general assignments as directed by the team supervisor.
  • Demonstrate willingness to assist with distribution system restoration efforts following storms, hurricanes, or wildfires.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Civil, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
    OR
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant technical studies or experience

Desired Skills & Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with a strong technical foundation and a commitment to continuous learning:

  • Proficiency or willingness to learn engineering and design software such as:
    OCalc Pro, SpidaCalc, PoleForeman, AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, Microsoft Office Suite, Acrobat PDF, or similar tools.
  • Strong computer and mathematical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet submission deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply utility standards, specifications, rules, and regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail when preparing sketches, layouts, and drawings.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and construction documents.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal English to support a safe and effective work environment.
