Job description


This position is central to the missionaries' role to 'Invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.' Using the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, the language evaluator are support, entry level, individual contributors that assesses the proficiency level of missionaries and teacher applicants in the target language. These ratings are then reported to the Language Evaluation Supervisor to help determine missionary placement and applicant employment eligibility.
Responsibilities
Reports to supervisor or trainer level in the Training Department
• Assess the language abilities of missionaries (pre-MTC and in-residence) and teacher applicants.
• Reports language-specific ratings to the Language Evaluation Supervisor through appropriate channels.
• Participates in regular individual trainings in order to improve intra-rater reliability, evaluation skills and accuracy.
• Participates in regular group trainings in order to improve interrater reliability and accuracy.
• Supports an effort to build and maintain an environment of increased harmony, trust, and good will within the department and the MTC.
• Performs secretarial and clerical tasks as needed
• May take on additional responsibilities as an Actor to role-play as a non-member interested in learning about The Church of Jesus Christ
• May include other temporary assigned duties at the MTC (e.g. assisting with Mission Leadership Seminar)
Qualifications
Required:
• 1 year of experience in speaking a second language
• Advanced High or Superior language proficiency level in target language (if not native, must provide evidence of language proficiency, i.e. OPI certification)
• Able to work independently
• Confident working under minimal supervision
• Excellent with public relations and communication skills
• Able to prioritize and organize
• Required to keep sensitive information confidential and work in a professional manner
To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, there may be physical requirements which need to be met such as sitting for long periods of time and using monitors/equipment.
Preferred:
• Previous or current MTC experience
• 1 year of experience evaluating language speaking abilities
