The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

Under general guidance and with latitude for exercising independent technical judgment, performs research related activities limited in scope and complexity in a specialized field. Provides direct research support and offers opportunity for future experimental and scientific development. This work will support the planning, design, and execution of experiments as well as direct studies. The Research Specialist will use existing protocols and will collaborate with other laboratories. Works independently with occasional input on modifying, varying or adapting standard laboratory procedures to meet special needs of research projects.

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Provides direct research support at the professional entry level.

TYPICAL ASSIGNMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works independently with only occasional suggestions in modifying, varying or adapting standard procedures and experiments in the culture of human or rodent primary, Embryonic Stem cells (ES), Human Embryonic Kidney 293 Cells (HEK293) cells or Induced Pluripotent Stem (iPS) cells in a Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) environment. Works independently with only occasional suggestions in modifying, varying or adapting standard laboratory procedures in a variety of moderately-complex rodent surgery, microscopy including time- lapse imaging, histological procedures, laboratory tests, analyses and observations which may require nonstandard procedures and complex instrumentation. Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment and makes simple repairs Analyzes material with computer-aided microscopy. Performs analyses and scientific data reductions by using standard methods and develops modifications of standard methods to meet special situations. Searches literature for references to technical problems involved in research projects; writes technical protocols; performs standard statistical analyses of data; and assists in the preparation of materials for publication. Frequently gives both oral and written reports, including but not limited to, statistical and photographic analysis of data.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in biological discipline or related field.
  • One year of applicable experience in laboratory setting.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Applicants should be self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as in a collaborative setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written communication.
  • Ability to readily learn new experimental techniques.
  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational and computer skills.
