Job Description:

Parsons is seeking a Junior Network Analyst Ito support the design, documentation, installation, configuration, and maintenance of network and communications infrastructure for transportation and smart mobility projects in the Chicago, IL area.

This entry-level role will work closely with senior engineers, designers, and project managers to support intelligent transportation systems, fiber optic networks, field communications equipment, and related roadside technology. The position is ideal for a junior-level candidate who has foundational knowledge of networking and infrastructure systems and is interested in growing within transportation technology and smart mobility.

  • Support the design and documentation of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks, fiber optic systems, communications cabinets, and ITS field devices such as CCTV, DMS, detectors, and sensors
  • Assist with configuration, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of switches, routers, firewalls, and connected field equipment under the direction of senior staff
  • Prepare and revise network diagrams, IP addressing plans, equipment inventories, and design drawings using AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Perform local field verification, site walks, equipment inventory, and as-built support while coordinating with construction teams and client representatives
  • Maintain organized project documentation, revision logs, and design files, and support compliance with agency, ITS, and network standards

Qualified candidates should have familiarity with networking concepts such as Layer 2 switching, Layer 3 routing, basic firewall concepts, and fiber optic infrastructure, along with the ability to read technical drawings and network diagrams. Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment are required. Candidates must be local to the Chicago area and able to support both office and field activities; exposure to ITS, transportation technology systems, public-sector projects, and field coordination, AutoCAD or MicroStation or Visio is preferred.
