Fire Alarm & Electronic Systems Technician
Location: Silverdale, WA The Technician, Fire Alarm & Electronic Systems installs, maintains, programs, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of fire alarm, detection, suppression, and electronic systems at Naval Base Kitsap. This position requires strong technical knowledge of low-voltage electronics, alarm systems, and integration with various fire protection and communication networks in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
Essential Duties & Job Functions: โ€ข Install, maintain, inspect, test, and repair fire alarm systems, including addressable and conventional configurations. โ€ข Work with related detection, suppression, and electronic systems such as wet/dry/pre-action sprinkler systems, deluge, foam, CO2, and dry chemical systems. โ€ข Troubleshoot, program, and modify system components including alarm panels, detectors, relays, and control modules. โ€ข Apply advanced technical knowledge to resolve complex problems where documentation may be incomplete or unavailable. โ€ข Perform maintenance-level programming and verification of system functions to ensure compliance with NFPA 72, NFPA 25, and other applicable standards. โ€ข Integrate and maintain related communication systems such as CCTV, audio amplifiers, telemetry, and fiber optic alarm networks. โ€ข Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics to determine proper system installation and repair methods. โ€ข Utilize complex testing instruments such as oscilloscopes, volt/ohm meters, pulse generators, and deviation meters. โ€ข Provide technical guidance to junior technicians as required. โ€ข Maintain accurate documentation and reports for inspections, repairs, and testing in accordance with contract and regulatory requirements. โ€ข Perform other related duties as assigned.
Accountable For: โ€ข Proper use of tools and test equipment common to the fire alarm and electronics trade. โ€ข Timely completion, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness of assigned work. โ€ข Compliance with all safety, environmental, and industrial practices. โ€ข Professional, courteous conduct when interacting with team members, clients, and base personnel. โ€ข Adherence to all company policies, SOPs, and regulatory standards.
Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):
Mandatory: โ€ข Minimum 4 years of experience in electrical, electronics, or fire alarm/suppression systems. โ€ข Completion of 2 years of formal training in electronics or equivalent; one year of experience may substitute for one year of training. โ€ข Proficiency with radio transmitters, receivers, data processors, amplifiers, CCTV, and telemetry devices. โ€ข Working knowledge of NFPA, UFC, and other alarm codes. โ€ข Familiarity with fire suppression systems (wet, dry, deluge, foam, CO2, pre-action) and procedures to secure them for testing. โ€ข Ability to climb ladders, pull cables, and work in confined or elevated spaces. โ€ข Skilled in conduit installation (up to 1-inch), layout, cutting, and bending. โ€ข Strong ability to interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation. โ€ข Valid Washington State driver's license and acceptable driving record. โ€ข Must provide and maintain personal hand tools of the trade. โ€ข Must meet company physical, safety, and security requirements, including respirator and clearance eligibility. โ€ข Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass required background checks and drug screenings. โ€ข Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred: โ€ข NICET Level III or higher certification in Fire Alarms. โ€ข State of Washington EL-06 Limited Energy Electricians License โ€ข Experience with systems such as Notifier, Simplex, Fike, EST, Gamewell, or FireLite. โ€ข Working knowledge of programming logic or PLC-style system interfaces.
