Job description

Genex Systems is seeking an entry level or intermediate GIS Specialist to support NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC), in Houston, TX. The successful candidate will support field data collection from cradle to grave, working with the Team Lead, Measurement Technicians, and GIS Analysts to collect data throughout JSC.
This position is located onsite at NASA JSC and requires the candidate to regularly work on site.
Position Tasks:
  • Use field survey hardware and software to collect data points, lines, polygons and associated attribute data
  • Provide recommendations for data collection methods
  • Utilize Geospatial software (ESRI Suite) to process data according to project needs
  • Work independently and within a team to collect field data on larger projects
  • Field verify Facility Housing Plans (FHP)
  • Work independently to complete tasks in the field, sometimes with little supervision
  • Perform Logical Quality Control to field data collected, ability to self correct is desired
  • Develop and update GIS feature data from various information sources, including hand drawings, survey documents and data, and historical documentation
  • Support customer requests for maps, data, CAD files, and other products
  • Perform work manually or using a computer
  • Represent the team professionally on JSC as a Field Technician
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs, throw/ raise a ladder/ climb up and down
  • Take direction and follow written and verbal instruction
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations for construction projects, and follow these rules and regulations
  • Utilize a variety of computer hardware and software applications and office equipment such as desktop and laptop computers, ESRI software such as ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro, AutoCAD software, large and small format printers, and MS Office Products

Minimum Requirements:
  • Candidate must have one or more years professional experience in field work data collection or GIS
  • Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced setting, multitasking ability, and knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Able to pass a background investigation
  • Preferred Associate's degree in surveying, environmental science, civil technology, or similar
  • Preferred 2 years experience in geospatial field data collection and processing
