Job description

Company Description

At IMS Nanofabrication, we shape the future - one nanometer at a time. Headquartered in Austria, with subsidiaries in Vienna, Taiwan, South Korea, and the USA, we are a global leader in semiconductor technology. Our cutting-edge mask writers power the world's most advanced chip manufacturing, making high-performance smartphones, PCs, and data centers possible. By pushing the boundaries of nanofabrication, we enable innovation at the smallest scale - driving progress on a global level.

Job Description

A core tenant at IMS Nanofabrication is a "People First" point of view. We agonize over getting the right people on board, in the right seats, and fostering an environment where each person can find autonomy, mastery, and purpose in their work.

This entry-level role is an exceptional launchpad for recent college graduates with engineering/science degrees, as well as military veterans such as from the Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program, who thrive in high-accountability, high-consequence technical environments.

Our Field Service Engineer I role emphasizes customer satisfaction, technical troubleshooting skills, and collaborative teamwork in daily operations with other Field Service Engineers. A successful Field Service Engineer I at IMS Nanofabrication displays strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, alongside a deep understanding of the impact of quickly diagnosing and addressing problems in the customer environment.

They have a strong desire to master both the technical attributes of our Multi-Beam Mask Writers - some of the most advanced semiconductor lithography equipment in the world - and the people skills required to excel in front of our critical customers.  This role requires an in-person presence in our Hillsboro, OR office with a daily presence at our customer site(s), strongly aligning with our US headquarters in Santa Clara, CA and our global R&D and operations team in Austria.  This non-exempt role reports directly to the team lead engineer in charge at IMS America.

You're Excited About This Opportunity Because You Will:

  • Grow with a Premier Team: Be part of a growing team of professional Field Service Engineers in Hillsboro, OR.
  • Master Cutting-Edge Tech: Internally align on and perform the activities related to the installation, annual preventive maintenance, and issue resolution of a growing fleet of multi-beam mask writers.
  • Drive Procedural Excellence: Ensure that IMS-defined methodologies and procedures are uniformly followed, and provide critical feedback to Headquarters regarding improvements, gaps, or necessary changes.
  • Solve High-Stakes Puzzles: Take part in special task force teams that handle customer escalations and challenging incidents, maintaining professional and regular communication with customer and headquarters functions.
  • Keep Leadership Aligned: Ensure seamless and transparent communication of all status updates to IMS US leadership.
  • Manage Customer Relationships: Maintain and build excellent customer relationships with local Tool Owners and other critical customer stakeholders.
  • Represent IMS in the Fab: Attend fab-related customer meetings to update the team's ongoing and planned issue resolution, installation, and Annual Preventive Maintenance activities.

We're Excited About You Because:

We are actively seeking candidates who fit one of these two foundational profiles:

Profile 1: Recent College Graduate

  • You hold a Bachelor's of Science degree in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Chemical), Physics, or a related STEM field.
  • You exhibit excellent problem-solving skills and are eager to bridge theoretical engineering concepts with hands-on machinery troubleshooting.

Profile 2: Navy Nuclear Propulsion Alumnus (EMN, ETN, MMN)

  • You have successfully completed the U.S. Navy Nuclear Power School and prototype training.
  • You possess a deep-seated respect for procedural compliance, operational safety, and quality control (QA/QC), with a proven track record of diagnosing complex mechanical, electrical, or electronic systems under operational pressure.

Core Requirements & Interpersonal Skills:

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a genuine enjoyment of being part of and integrating with a global, fast-paced team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting technical updates in high-visibility customer environments.
  • 1+ years of technical field service or hands-on operational system experience (Navy nuclear plant operation/maintenance directly satisfies this).
Qualifications

We're Elated About You Because (Preferred but not Required):

  • You have a prior metrology or semiconductor lithography equipment support background
  • You have hands-on troubleshooting experience with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems or high-voltage electronics (highly prevalent in Navy nuclear platforms and advanced engineering labs).
  • You have experience in Linux/UNIX server system administration.
Additional Information

We Offer:

  • We are a leading high-tech company with headquarters in Austria and international subsidiaries (Taiwan, Korea, USA).
  • Excellent professional and personal development opportunities in an international company.
  • Very collegial and motivated team with short communication channels.
  • Top-equipped workplace (modern office, laptop, height-adjustable desk).
  • We offer a competitive salary, a convenient Santa Clara location, and a benefits package that includes paid time off, medical, dental and vision plans, life, disability coverage, and a 401K plan + company match.

Individual pay is determined by several factors, including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually at a minimum to ensure competitive and fair pay.
