Job description

Deloitte Tax LLP seeks a Tax Senior in Chicago, Illinois.
Work You'll Do
Assist clients to manage state tax liability and such challenges as states with unique tax laws, the enforcement focus of state departments of revenue, the growing number of audits, and increased merger and acquisition activity. Services include business restructuring, credits and incentives, state income and franchise tax, state strategic tax review, and state tax controversy. Perform detailed technical reviews of partnership and corporate state tax returns and work papers with attention to multistate tax issues, including apportionment, state modifications, nexus, unitary filings, and flow-through taxation, and synthesize overall operations strategy by analyzing a wide variety of business solutions. Identify complex tax issues and provide tax analysis for a variety of entities and their affiliates. Primary responsibilities include overseeing complex tax research projects for clients in diverse industries as well as researching and analyzing a wide range of tax issues such as deferred tax liability issues and tax implications of financing techniques for a variety of entities and their affiliates. Assume tax planning responsibilities for corporate and pass-through clients. Will commute within the Chicago, IL area to consult with clients concerning the above job duties.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field (willing to accept foreign degree equivalent) and 18 months of experience in a Tax Senior or related occupation applying federal, state, and local tax rules to corporate and partnership clients.
Experience must include:
  • Performing tax research utilizing tax software and tools, including CorpTax, GoSystem, SuperForm, and CCH;
  • preparing and filing withholding and composite returns for partnerships and limited liability companies in multi-state jurisdictions;
  • preparing state income and franchise tax returns for corporations and partnerships based on varying state regulations for the apportionment of income and nexus creating activities;
  • providing income and franchise tax consulting, tax planning, state tax audit defense, and income tax accounting services for multistate companies;
  • preparing and filing K-1s, withholding and composite returns for partnerships and limited liability companies, including hedge funds and private equity funds;
  • performing state taxation services, including state apportionments, modifications and state and local credits calculation, based on varying state regulations;
  • mediating between client and state revenue department to resolve state tax notices, audit, or other tax-related issues/inquiries;
  • preparing complex tax technical memos and responding to Information Document Requests (IDRs) and various tax notices.
