Job description

MRI Technologist

Under immediate to general supervision and direction of a mentor/preceptor, this entry-level position works to achieve the initial competencies required to deliver specialized cardiovascular and/or radiologic technology services to pediatric patient populations. The purpose is to aid medical staff in the diagnosis, care, treatment, and surveillance of simple to complex conditions, defects, and/or diseases. Utilizing entry-level knowledge, abilities, skills, and available resources, the technologist provides safe, high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective patient-centric care and support services under routine or emergent conditions in a variety of care settings.

Responsibilities include preparing patients for procedures and correlating clinical history with procedures ordered by physicians to be performed. The technologist communicates and collaborates with patients, families, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team to identify and implement necessary actions to achieve clinical outcomes, operational goals, and service expectations. Utilizing a variety of highly specialized cardiovascular and/or radiologic equipment and techniques, the technologist performs diagnostic, interventional, and/or surgical procedures in accordance with established guidelines. Conducting post-procedure review confirms that all required elements are completed, documented, and that technical quality is consistent with established department protocols and applicable accreditation standards. The technologist transfers images and data to the appropriate archival systems, enters technical data/findings, and prepares studies for reporting by physicians. Performing operator-level quality control checks, cleaning, high-level disinfecting, and other user maintenance follows manufacturer instructions and regulatory guidelines. Participation in continuing education, professional development, and research activities promotes continuous improvement in care and treatments.

Skills required include applying principles of cardiovascular and/or radiologic technology, medical imaging, medical terminology, positioning of patients, and medical ethics. The ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions is essential. Sensitivity to patients' physical and psychological needs is crucial. The technologist must maintain accurate records and work accurately with names, numbers, and codes. Strong judgment, discretion in handling confidential information, and the ability to multi-task in stressful situations are necessary. Understanding various operations, policies, and procedures is required. Effective communication with staff, patients, and their families is important to meet their needs professionally and compassionately. Demonstrating a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently is expected. The role requires the ability to work with minimum supervision and demonstrate attention to detail. Core knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy and physiology, cardiovascular and/or radiologic technologies, and terminology associated with the primary specialty is essential. The ability and skill to apply core-level specialty theory, practices, and techniques allows the technologist to perform, post-process, analyze, and annotate study data with general supervision or assistance.
