POSITION PURPOSE: The Department of Athletics services the entire community and its alumni. It is responsible for creating an institutional culture that is supportive of students. The department provides leadership in the development of services and programs that enrich student life, extend, enhance the academic experience, and contribute to an environment that encourages personal growth and development.

Under the direct to general supervision of the Associate Athletics Director for Marketing & Fan Engagement, and with daily lead direction from the Creative Services Lead, the Creative Services Assistant performs entry-level professional work in support of the Athletics department's creative services and communications functions. The incumbent assists with the creation and production of multimedia content, including graphic design, photography, videography, social media content, and digital communications that promote CSUB Athletics, its student-athletes, coaches, and programs. The position supports game-day and special event coverage, maintains digital media assets, collaborates with Athletics staff on established communication and marketing initiatives, and ensures creative materials are consistent with department branding standards.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Roadrunner Athletics Multimedia Content Creation

  • Assist with creating graphic design materials for social media, schedules, game-day promotions, final scores, recruiting materials, and department-wide marketing initiatives using established Athletics branding standards.
  • Assist with the development and production of creative content and season-long visual campaigns for assigned sport programs.
  • Produce digital graphics and multimedia assets that support Athletics communications, marketing, fan engagement, and recruiting efforts under daily direction of the Creative Services Lead.
  • Maintain consistency with CSUB Athletics visual identity, branding guidelines, and graphic standards across assigned projects.
  • Capture high-quality photo and video content at practices, home and away competitions, community events, and special Athletics functions using professional digital cameras, lenses, lighting, and audio equipment.
  • Edit and produce highlight videos, promotional videos, student-athlete and coach interviews, and other digital content for Athletics communications channels using industry-standard photo, video, and graphic design software.
  • Organize, label, and maintain digital photo and video archives to ensure accessibility and preservation of Athletics media assets.
  • Provide creative content support for special events, fan engagement activities, recruiting initiatives, Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) related creative requests (as applicable), and additional department priorities as requested.
  • Travel with assigned teams, as needed, to provide photography, videography, and creative content support during competitions and special events.

Social Media Support  

  • Create and schedule platform-specific content for Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, and other approved social media platforms.
  • Assist with live game coverage by capturing and posting real-time scores, highlights, photos, and other real-time event content during athletic competitions.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining engaging social media content calendars in collaboration with marketing and communications staff.
  • Monitor social media engagement and report basic performance metrics to assist with evaluating content effectiveness and audience engagement.

Digital Storytelling Support 

  • Assist with producing multimedia feature stories highlighting student-athletes, coaches, alumni, and campus initiatives for established digital communication channels.
  • Assist with creating and editing behind-the-scenes content, game-day stories, interviews, and other multimedia content that showcases the student-athlete experience and promotes fan engagement.
  • Collaborate with communications staff to assist with the development and preparation of multimedia content that supports established communication, marketing, and promotional objectives.

Planning & Collaboration

  • Participate in creative planning meetings to assist with developing content ideas and production schedules for assigned sport programs.
  • Coordinate with marketing, communications, ticket sales, and sport programs to support promotional campaigns and game-day content needs.
  • Track assigned project timelines, maintain creative asset libraries and organize content requests to support timely completion of assigned work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field. Relevant education and/or experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA's) -

  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • General knowledge of media relations, public affairs, and sports information.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to effectively present information and produce content.
  • Skill in following guidelines and providing input and feedback as required and applicable.

  • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
  • Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional digital media experience within college or professional Athletics (Division I preferred).
  • Graphic design, video editing, and editorial skills.
  • Competence in computer software programs such as Adobe Creative suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of interview techniques and the ability to define and deliver media messages.
  • Experience managing a brand digitally (social media/content creation).
  • Demonstrated skills in a high paced environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: LIGHT WORK - involves mainly sitting, up to 25% standing or walking; lifting medium weight objects limited to 25 pounds.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
