The Marine Service Specialist position is an entry level position into the marine service industry. This is a generalist role that provides exposure to many Marine Trades and many opportunities to learn. Several of our marine painters, sailboat riggers, fiberglass technicians and electricians started in this role. At Safe Harbor Great Island we develop our crew by offering on the job training; professional trade specific training; and advancement opportunities to employees that demonstrate work ethic, commitment, attention to detail and passion for their work. This is a full time year round position and is eligible for our complete benefits package. This position may also be referred to as Yard Hand (Detailer).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Buffing, Waxing, Painting, Polishing and Detailing pleasure boats both in the water and inside our heated storage buildings
  • Assisting to move boats throughout the facility as a part of a team
  • Assisting the various Marine Trades department Technicians to complete their tasks
  • Operating a tractor and driving pickup trucks to move materials and supplies throughout the facility
  • Carrying out duties and responsibilities as assigned including building and facility maintenance projects
  • Availability to work overtime to meet seasonal demands
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
  • Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment (may include safety glasses, gloves, life jackets and/or hard hats) as required for the task or work area
  • Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately

Technical & Physical Requirements
  • Previous boat yard experience is welcomed but is not a requirement
  • Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, bend, and crouch
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to wear a respirator
  • Any skills considered standard that a Marine Service Specialist should possess
