Nature of Work This position will be working as a Building Maintenance Skilled Trade Aide. This is an entry-level position designed to provide entry-level training and on the job experience in Facilities-Building Maintenance. The goal of this position is to provide a broad range of general knowledge about skilled trades and begin the learning and development of a specialty area that leads to certification or licensure qualification in the State of Michigan.

Expectations of this position include successful completion of the formal training programs provided by the departments created to establish core competencies. Work in this position is performed under the close guidance and supervision of a supervisor, lead worker or a more experienced employee. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job.

Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Receives training on preventative maintenance for buildings, appliances, plumbing, and electrical fixtures. Cleans and makes minor repairs to walls, windows, doors, floors; straightens up work areas; moves furniture, materials, and supplies; picks up and delivers supplies, parts, and materials; cleans equipment; cleans and unplugs drains Performs rough carpentry work, assists in installing paneling, cabinets, drywall, flooring, framing, and shelves in public buildings and facilities Repairs and replaces doors, walls, ceilings, floors and performs locksmith duties Performs basic plumbing work; repairs faucets, commodes, water heaters, and valves; maintains and repairs sprinkling systems and equipment Prepares and paints walls, floors, ceiling; builds shelves, bulletin boards, display cases and the like; repairs desks, tables, chairs, and other furniture.
