Entry Level Live Camera Operator information

What is an entry level live camera operator?

Entry level live camera operators are professionals who operate cameras during live events such as television broadcasts, sports games, concerts, or news coverage. Their responsibilities typically include setting up cameras, framing and focusing shots, following directions from the director, and ensuring smooth visual coverage of the event. While they may have limited experience, entry level operators are crucial for capturing quality footage and supporting the production team. They often work under supervision and may handle tasks like moving cables or adjusting equipment. This role is a common starting point for those interested in a career in live video production.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level live camera operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Live Camera Operator, you need a basic understanding of video composition, camera functions, and audio/visual technology, generally supported by a high school diploma or equivalent and some technical training. Familiarity with professional video cameras, tripods, switchers, and editing software like Adobe Premiere or OBS Studio is typically required. Attention to detail, reliability, and strong communication skills help operators work effectively under pressure and within production teams. These skills and qualities are crucial to capturing high-quality footage and ensuring smooth, professional live broadcasts.

What are some common challenges faced by entry level live camera operators, and how can they be addressed?

Entry level live camera operators often encounter challenges such as adapting quickly to changing production cues, managing equipment under pressure, and maintaining steady shots during live events. To overcome these, it helps to develop strong communication skills with the director and crew, practice technical proficiency with camera controls, and remain adaptable to last-minute changes. Regular feedback from experienced colleagues and proactive learning can accelerate growth and confidence on set.

Full-time, Part-time

Job description

We're so happy you're here! Thank you for checking our job out and we hope to have the chance to meet you in our interview process!
About the role
Grüns is building a live commerce studio from the ground up, and the Livestream Operator is the person who makes every stream run without a hitch. This is a technical and production role - you'll own the back end of every broadcast, keep talent supported and on track, and ensure the viewer experience is seamless from start to finish. If you're a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced production environment and knows how to keep things moving without being told twice, this is your role.
  • Location: On-site, Culver City, CA (in-studio)
  • Schedule: This role starts part-time at ~20 hours/week, with the potential to grow to full-time as the studio scales.
  • Employment type: Hourly W2
  • Pay: $35/hr + commission
In this role, you will:
  • Manage the technical side of each live stream - equipment setup, stream configuration, and real-time troubleshooting
  • Run back-end platform functions during broadcasts, including flash sales, giveaways, and other live commerce features
  • Moderate the live chat - keeping it on-brand, engaging, and free of distractions
  • Support talent throughout every stream - coordinating logistics so hosts can stay focused on performing
  • Make occasional on-camera appearances as needed in a supporting capacity
  • Film short-form content to supplement live streams and contribute to brainstorming and ideation for social content
We're looking for someone who:
  • Has experience in production - whether on a film or TV set, in a studio environment, or in a technical live event capacity
  • Is comfortable operating production equipment and platforms without hand-holding
  • Has worked closely with on-camera talent and knows how to create an environment where they can do their best work
  • Has experience with live streaming platforms (TikTok Live, YouTube Live, OBS, or similar) - or picks up new tools fast
  • Is highly reliable - this is a shift-based role and showing up prepared, on time, and ready to execute is non-negotiable
Approach to the role:
  • You anticipate problems before they happen and fix them before anyone else notices
  • You're calm under pressure - when something goes sideways mid-stream, you handle it without making it a moment
  • You take ownership of your environment. The studio, the stream, the chat - it's all yours to manage
  • You're a team player who genuinely cares about making the hosts successful, even if you're mostly working behind the scenes
  • You're consistent and accountable. Every shift, same standard.
To Apply:
Please enter your info and share a bit about yourself with us below. We ask that you do not use Chat GPT or similar tools to answer these questions, as it is our hope to genuinely get to know you and the way you communicate and think! We do love integrating these tools into our work though, and you'll hear plenty more about that if you join us.
A bit about us...
At Grüns, we believe that foundational nutrition should be simple and convenient for everyone. We're dedicated to bringing comprehensive and real nutrition to you through our gummies, formulated from 60 nutrient-dense and whole-food ingredients. Simply enjoy a grab-and-go snack pack of gummies daily whenever fits best in your schedule and wherever life takes you.
Like you, we were disappointed. There's an infinite number of "nutrition" companies, all focused on what's best for them - not what's best for you. Hundreds of products to sell you on, low-quality ingredients, and small nutrient doses. We've seen it all.
So we decided it was time to fix it. No more choking on and popping pills like a pharmacy. No more clean-up and disgust from gross powders. And no more cobbling together handfuls to dozens of supplements. Grüns is comprehensive nutrition, made convenient and delicious.
What we care about...
Be the Best: We hold ourselves, our teams, and our partners to an incredibly high standard - and we raise the bar constantly. "We've never done this before" isn't an excuse here. It's an invitation.
Own It: We act like our name is on the door. That means taking complete ownership of outcomes, collaborating deeply, working through roadblocks - not around them - and never waiting for someone else to solve the problem. Great owners are great partners.
Drive Impact, Urgently: We measure impact, not effort. We work smart and hard, move fast, and use every tool at our disposal - including AI - to focus our energy where it matters most.
Compensation & Perks:
For every role, we aim to have highly competitive compensation and opportunity for impact and career growth.
Everyone at Grüns works hard, but we believe in wellness and balance too. We have super strong benefits coverage -- for you and your family, generous PTO, free Grüns, and a few more perks centered around health and well-being that we can't wait to tell you about!
