Nursing Standardized Patient (part-time)

The Nursing Standardized Patient involves the use of individuals trained to portray the roles of patients, family members, or others. Standardized Patient Programs (SPP) are an evidence-based educational resource used for both teaching and evaluating the clinical skills in the training of many different health sciences professional students.

What you'll do in this position:

  • Memorize case scripts describing specific emotional states, behaviors, and signs/symptoms of disease conditions to increase fidelity during simulated learning situations.

  • Consistently provide case information when elicited by learners during simulated encounters.

  • Remain in the patient character they are portraying when responding to learners' questions.

  • Recall simulation and learner interactions after encounters and provides verbal and/or written feedback as accurately as possible.

  • Participate in group training sessions and mentor entry-level SPs.

  • Maintain confidentiality of information related to scenarios, cases, learners, and verbal/written feedback of learner assessments.

  • Actively reflect on individual performance and pursue ways to improve skills.

  • Accurately portray specific medical conditions as specified by session SP training.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required:

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU

  • High school degree or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Some acting background

  • Have a flexible schedule

  • Have access to a personal email account

  • Nursing or medical training (not required)

Pay Grade: 47
