Position Specific Summary
Staffs the Himmelfarb Library Circulation Desk and performs basic circulation duties including checking in and out, as well as renewing, materials. Arranges books on the returned books cart in call number order and shelves them as needed. Responds to users' inquiries for directions, information, or Library circulation policies. Consults with Circulation supervisors to solve routine problems. Students working the morning and evening shifts are responsible for opening or closing the library, respectively.
Monitors the security gate to ensure all users entering the library are valid affiliates of the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences, Milken Institute School of Public Health, and Nursing. Explains the library's access policy to ineligible users and refers questions/disputes/special requests to one of the Circulation Managers for resolution. Ensures all users entering the library have properly tapped for access.
Standard Position Description
The student will support the administrative and logistical tasks in a GW library. Tasks may include: retrieving and reshelving materials, staffing the reference desk and assisting on-site patrons, fulfilling patron requests for scans and photocopies of materials, stacks management, assisting staff with researching patron reference queries, monitoring patrons for compliance library and university protocols, and record-keeping tasks to support collection management practices. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.
