Job description

Position Title: Entry-Level Librarian

Department: Vise Library

Supervisor: Director of the Vise Library

FLSA Status: Exempt

The entry-level librarian position is a professional librarian position responsible for supporting the organization, accessibility, and discoverability of library resources while providing instructional services to students, faculty, and staff. This position combines cataloging responsibilities, including public service duties such as library instruction, research assistance, and scheduled circulation desk coverage.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a willingness to learn and grow within an academic library environment. Training will be provided, but candidates with Master's degree from an ALA-accredited college or university in Library and Information Science.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Cataloging

  • Perform original and copy cataloging of print, electronic, and multimedia library materials using accepted cataloging standards (MARC, RDA, AACR2, and Library of Congress subject headings).
  • Maintain and update bibliographic and authority records in the library management system.
  • Assist with collection maintenance projects, including inventory, withdrawals, and record cleanup.

Library Instruction

  • Provide library instruction sessions to support information literacy initiatives for students and faculty.
  • Develop instructional materials, guides, and tutorials to support library services and research.
  • Offer reference and research assistance in person, via email, and online.

Requirement

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in library science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program, or completion expected within six months.
