Entry Level Law Graduate information

What is an entry level law graduate?

Entry level law graduates are individuals who have recently completed their law degree, such as a Juris Doctor (JD), and are beginning their professional legal careers. They typically have little or no prior legal work experience and may be seeking positions such as junior associates at law firms, legal assistants, or clerks. Entry level law graduates often focus on gaining practical experience, building legal skills, and preparing for or having recently passed the bar exam. These positions serve as a foundation for further specialization and advancement within the legal field.

What tasks and responsibilities can an entry level law graduate expect in their first year at a law firm?

As an entry level law graduate at a law firm, you can expect to handle a variety of tasks such as legal research, drafting legal documents (like memos and briefs), assisting with case preparation, and managing document review. You'll likely work closely with senior attorneys, providing support on client matters and attending meetings or court proceedings for observation. This role offers valuable exposure to different practice areas and the opportunity to develop practical legal skills while building professional relationships within the firm.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an entry level law graduate, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry Level Law Graduate, you need a solid understanding of legal principles, research skills, and a law degree from an accredited institution. Familiarity with legal research databases like Westlaw or LexisNexis and proficiency in drafting legal documents are typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective written and verbal communication help you stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are essential for accurately interpreting laws, supporting casework, and contributing effectively to legal teams.

Job description

Looking for a Career Opportunity, Not Just Another Job?

Our Established Law Firm is seeking a bright, dependable and highly motivated person to join our Alpharetta law office as a Legal Office Assistant.

The compensation package consists of a base salary plus commission.

Prior law-office experience is NOT required. We are willing to train the right person.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is organized, professional, comfortable with technology and eager to learn. You may be a recent college graduate, currently working in an administrative or customer-service position, or simply looking for an opportunity to move into a professional career with room to grow.

We are much more interested in your attitude, work ethic, reliability and ability to learn than whether you have worked in a law firm before.

What You’ll Do

You will begin by helping keep our office organized and running efficiently, including:

  • Answering and directing telephone calls
  • Communicating professionally with clients and prospective clients
  • Scheduling and calendar assistance
  • Processing incoming mail and correspondence
  • Scanning, organizing and maintaining documents
  • Entering and updating information in our case-management system
  • Assisting attorneys and paralegals with administrative tasks
  • Helping with new-client intake
  • Preparing routine correspondence and documents
  • Keeping track of assignments and following through to completion

As you learn our office and demonstrate your abilities, there will be opportunities to take on increasingly substantive legal-support responsibilities.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Shows up on time and can be counted on
  • Is organized and pays attention to details
  • Communicates well on the telephone and in writing
  • Is comfortable learning new computer programs
  • Can handle multiple assignments without losing track of them
  • Takes initiative instead of waiting to be told every next step
  • Is willing to ask questions and learn
  • Has a professional, positive demeanor
  • Takes pride in doing things correctly
  • Wants to become more valuable and take on greater responsibility over time

Legal experience is helpful, but it is absolutely not required.

This Could Be a Great Fit If...

You are currently working in customer service, hospitality, a medical or dental office, banking, insurance, property management, another professional office—or you are a recent graduate looking for an opportunity to begin a professional career.

If you are capable, ambitious and feel like you could do more if someone gave you the opportunity, we want to hear from you.

Growth Opportunity

This is not intended to be a dead-end receptionist position.

The person we hire will have the opportunity to learn how a law office operates and, based upon performance and ability, grow into additional administrative and legal-support responsibilities.

We believe in giving talented people additional responsibility when they demonstrate that they are ready for it.

Position

  • Full-time
  • In-office position in Alpharetta, Georgia
  • Monday through Friday
  • Professional law-office environment
  • Training provided

How to Apply

Please submit your resume along with a short note telling us why you believe you would be a good fit for this position.

We are not looking for the person with the most legal experience.

We are looking for the person with the ability and desire to become exceptional at the job.

Company Description

Alpharetta Professional Office seeks Admin Assistant with great communication skills looking for the opportunity to advance rapidly.
