SUPERVISOR: Shift Supervisor, New Start

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
HomeFirst is a leading provider of services, shelter, and housing opportunities for the homeless and those at risk of homelessness in Santa Clara County. The on-site Custodian/Laundry Attendant will carry out a wide variety of Custodial and Housekeeping duties as needed.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This role reports to the Shift Supervisor.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Basic janitorial, stocking supplies and cleaning daily.
  • Pick up trash and litter around grounds and buildings.
  • Gathers and empties trash, including moving dumpsters for city trash pickup.
  • Keeps recycling areas, trash rooms and dumpster areas are neat, clean and litter-free.
  • Cleans common area floors by sweeping mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
  • Clean office, laundry rooms and property
  • Picks up all litter & checks for health & safety issues.
  • Maintains inventory of tools, equipment, parts & supplies & informs supervisor to place order.
  • Maintains neat, clean, and organized maintenance shops and storage areas.
  • Keeps all utility and meter rooms free of dirt, debris and litter.
  • Services, cleans, and supplies common area restrooms.
  • Shampooing carpets/rugs and waxing floors
  • Use OSHA-required Personal Protective Equipment and best safety practices
  • Safely operate the washing and drying machines and check for any hazards or malfunctions prior to starting them.
  • Correctly fold blankets and linens after drying so that they are presentable to the guests.
  • Provide blankets to guests during linen exchanges.
  • Be able to count and log the correct number of blankets and linens and sort them into the correct box for each site.
  • Monitor supply levels of items needed such as detergent, plastic bags and notify HomeFirst staff when they need to be restocked.
  • Notify staff immediately when equipment is malfunctioning or damaged and in need of repairs.
  • Keep the laundry room clean, organized and free from any safety hazards.
  • Understand the capacity limits of each machine and avoid overloading.
  • Communicate with Facilities Leadership and site staff to provide property status.
  • Uses and stores cleaning products in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Performs miscellaneous janitorial maintenance related tasks or other duties as directed by Facilities Management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

BENEFITS
This role does not have any benefits except for the California Paid Sick Leave (PSL). Sick Time applies as required by law, part time employees will accrue 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.

QUALIFICATIONS (YOU HAVE)
Education and Experience
  • Entry level position
  • High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
  • Pass a background check including Livescan (Fingerprinting) and a criminal background check
  • Must be able to function in an independent environment
  • Experience working with chemicals and cleaning compounds such as bleach ammonia, alcohol, glycerin, ammonium chloride, and propane including understanding what each compound does and when to use them
  • Knowledge of mixing /quantities for creating cleaning solutions and liquids for use in everyday surface cleanups
  • Ability to comprehend instructions, read and write short correspondence and memos
  • Ability to communicate (speak, read, and write) in English to maintain workplace safety and serve internal and external customers
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
