Job description

A-1 Electrical Contractors, inc. is hiring a Junior Software Developer to help build and maintain the internal software that runs our company. We've built a real, modern platform in-house, and we need a developer to help extend it, automate manual work across the business, and keep our systems running smoothly.
This is a hands-on coding role with real ownership. You'll be writing code that field crews, warehouse staff, and office teams use every day. It's an ideal role for a recent CS/bootcamp grad or a self-taught developer who wants to work on a production codebase, learn fast, and see their work go live immediately.
We build with AI. Our team develops day-to-day in Claude Code, and you'll work the same way, using AI coding tools to move faster and take on more. Comfort directing an AI assistant, reviewing what it produces, and knowing when to trust it is core to how we work.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Build and maintain features in our internal web platform (TypeScript, SQL, modern web stack).
  • Develop with AI tools every day, primarily Claude Code, to plan, write, and review code efficiently.
  • Write automations that eliminate manual administrative, operational, and reporting work.
  • Work with Git for version control and collaborate on a shared codebase.
  • Query and maintain data across our databases; help keep data accurate and clean.
  • Troubleshoot issues, investigate bugs, and coordinate with the team to ship fixes.
  • Document what you build so the next person (and future you) can pick it up.
  • Partner with operations, warehouse, HR, and leadership to understand real problems and solve them with software.
  • Stay curious, and pick up new tools and techniques that make the company run better

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • AI fluency: hands-on experience using AI coding assistants (we run Claude Code), with the judgment to review, verify, and refine what they generate.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and comfort writing queries.
  • Hands-on experience coding in an IDE such as Cursor or VS Code.
  • Understanding of Git for version control and collaboration.
  • Solid problem-solving instincts and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow a structured process while spotting ways to improve it.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across teams.
  • Willingness to learn fast and juggle several priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A GitHub profile, personal project, or portfolio you can show us.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Any experience with a modern web framework (React / Next.js), TypeScript, or building internal tools.
  • Familiarity with workflow-automation tools, APIs, or process-improvement work.
  • Exposure to spreadsheets, databases, or reporting tools.
  • Background in construction, field operations, or operational support environments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Able to occasionally lift, carry, and move equipment up to 20 lbs.

BENEFITS & COMPENSATION

  • Pay Range: $45,000 - $60,000/year based on experience
  • Bi-Annual Performance Awards
  • Health insurance (medical, dental, vision & supplemental) offered
  • Employer-Paid Life Insurance Plan
  • 401(k) with match on gross income contributions
  • Paid Time Off
