Job description

Accounting Clerk - Backend Products & Journal Entries
Full-Time | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday | Permanent Desk at Jim Taylor Buick GMC, Monroe, LA
About the Role
Jim Taylor Auto Group is looking for a detail-driven Accounting Clerk to own a critical piece of our back-office operation: remitting and cancelling backend finance & insurance products, and posting journal entries, across two of our dealership locations. This isn't a role for someone who wants to coast through repetitive data entry - it's for someone who takes real ownership of numbers, catches what others miss, and treats deadlines as non-negotiable.
The remittance and cancellation schedules for backend products are detailed, cross-referenced, and unforgiving of guesswork - this work assumes you already know your way around accounting fundamentals. It is not a role where you'll learn debits and credits on the job.
You'll have a permanent desk at our Buick GMC store in Monroe, LA, but your work will directly support two dealership rooftops. If you like variety, cross-store visibility, and being the person who keeps the backend product process airtight, this is built for you.
What You'll Own
  • Remit backend products (service contracts, GAP, warranties, and other F&I products) to providers for two dealership locations, accurately and on schedule.
  • Process cancellations of backend products for both stores - calculating refunds, submitting cancellation paperwork, and following each contract through to close.
  • Prepare and post weekly and monthly journal entries for both locations as part of the regular close cycle.
  • Reconcile the GL accounts tied to backend product remittance and cancellation activity, and chase down discrepancies until they're resolved - not just flagged.
  • Maintain clean, audit-ready documentation for every remittance, cancellation, and entry you touch.
  • Work directly with F&I managers, business office staff, and product providers at both stores to keep information moving and problems solved quickly.
  • Balance competing deadlines across two locations without letting either one slip.

Who Thrives Here
  • Accounting or bookkeeping experience is required - 1-2+ years preferred. Dealership or F&I backend product experience is a strong plus.
  • Someone who is genuinely comfortable owning a process end-to-end, across multiple locations, with minimal hand-holding.
  • Sharp with numbers and spreadsheets - strong Microsoft skills and a natural instinct for reconciliation.
  • Experience with a dealership DMS (Reynolds & Reynolds, CDK, Dealertrack, Tekion, or similar) is a real advantage.
  • Meticulous. You'd rather double-check a number than let a small error become a big one.
  • Reliable and deadline-driven - weekly and monthly close dates matter to you, not just to your manager.
  • Comfortable communicating with F&I and business office staff at two different stores, and not afraid to follow up until something is resolved.

This Probably Isn't for You If...
  • You don't have prior accounting or bookkeeping experience - the remittance and cancellation schedules are too complex to pick up without it, and this isn't an entry-level, learn-on-the-job position.
  • You want a single, simple task to repeat all day with no ownership over the outcome.
  • You need frequent check-ins or step-by-step direction to stay on track.
  • Deadlines feel optional to you, or you tend to let paperwork pile up "until later."
  • Supporting two locations sounds like more coordination than you want to manage.
  • Reconciliation, detail work, and double-checking your own numbers sound tedious rather than satisfying.

Compensation & Schedule
Competitive pay, based on experience.
Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Permanent desk located at Jim Taylor Buick GMC in Monroe, LA, supporting both dealership locations.
Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Disability and life insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Paid vacation plus five paid holidays
  • Free medical clinic access, plus complimentary mental and physical therapy and nutritionist access
  • Employee discount program
  • Ongoing training opportunities
  • Referral bonuses
  • Employee appreciation events

Core Values in Action
At Jim Taylor Auto Group, our Accounting Clerks live our values every day:
  • Dedication - following through from intake to completion and staying engaged until the job is done right
  • Responsibility - verifying accuracy in entries and flagging discrepancies without being asked
  • Initiative - flagging discrepancies before they become a bigger problem and giving full effort to every task, not just the ones someone's watching
  • Value - knowing our accuracy protects the operation as a whole, and working accordingly
  • Empathy - treating every team member with patience, respect, and understanding, especially in stressful situations
