Title: Accountant I
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7AM - 4PM
Pay: $23-$25/hr
Location: On-site in Chesapeake, VA
Position Summary
We are seeking an entry-level Accountant I to support our accounting team with daily transactional tasks. This role focuses on accounts payable/receivable processing, data entry, and assisting with reconciliations while ensuring accuracy, organization, and adherence to established procedures. This position works under close supervision and is ideal for someone looking to grow their accounting experience.
Key Responsibilities
Enter vendor invoices, customer receipts, and expense reports with proper coding and documentation
Prepare and post routine journal entries while maintaining organized supporting files
Assist with bank and account reconciliations
Run standard reports and support month-end close tasks through checklist updates
Validate timesheets and assist with payroll data entry as needed
Help maintain fixed asset records, including tags and schedules
Respond to internal inquiries regarding invoices and payment status
Organize and file documentation for audits
Follow established procedures and escalate discrepancies when needed
Perform additional accounting and administrative tasks as assigned
Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Bachelor’s preferred)
1–2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience (internship or co-op experience acceptable)
Basic understanding of GAAP and accounting procedures
Experience with ERP/accounting systems; Deltek Costpoint is a plus
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (sorting, filtering, basic formulas)
