Job description

Role: Java AI Engineer

Location: Chicago, IL(3 days Hybrid)

Duration: Fulltime/ Contract Opportunity

Role Summary
We're looking for a hands-on engineer who builds scalable Java microservices on Azure and actively uses AI tools to accelerate development, testing, and delivery — not someone who just knows the concepts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and deploy Java-based microservices (Spring Boot) in production environments
  • Architect and manage cloud-native solutions on Microsoft Azure (AKS, App Services, Azure Functions, Service Bus)
  • Apply AI-assisted development practices (Copilot, Claude, or similar) to speed up coding, code review, testing, and documentation
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
  • Implement API gateways, event-driven architecture, and containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Own performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting of distributed systems

Required Skills

  • Strong Java (8+) and Spring Boot expertise in microservices architecture
  • Proven Azure experience — AKS, Azure Functions, Azure SQL/Cosmos DB, Azure Service Bus/Event Grid
  • Practical experience using AI coding assistants/tools to improve dev velocity (please describe your workflow)
  • REST API design, message queues (Kafka/RabbitMQ), and event-driven patterns
  • Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipeline experience
  • Solid understanding of security, scalability, and resilience patterns (circuit breakers, retries, rate limiting)
