Job description

Associate Avionics Systems Service Engineer (Entry-Level or Associate)

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is looking for an Associate Avionics Systems Service Engineer (Entry-Level or Associate) to join their Flight Recorder Systems team in Seal Beach, CA.

As an Avionics Systems Service Engineer, you will assist airline customers in resolving real-time technical problems by decoding, processing and analyzing Flight Recorder & Data Systems. This includes answering systems functionality inquiries, resolving short to medium-term avionics-related problem reports, investigating long-term issues, and providing proactive fleet guidance. All of this is done using the latest Boeing tools, technology, data analytics, and real-time fleet monitoring data.

Boeing Customer Support operates on a 24/7/365 basis. Employees must be willing to work flexible hours and/or non-standard shifts to support our fleets. International and domestic travel may be required.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Provide technical, design and informational support for basic production, product support or in-service issues.

  • Work with operators and engineers to recover Airplane on Ground (AOG) situations, which sometimes requires working over the phone to troubleshoot an airplane halfway around the world or being on onsite with the operator to return a grounded airplane back to revenue service.

  • Troubleshoot Flight Data Recorder problems consistent with operational protocols.

  • Publishes technical documentation (e.g. Fleet Team Digest articles, Service Letters, Drawings, Specifications, documents, data sets, design folders, test requirements) in accordance with engineering processes and procedures.

  • Participate in technical design reviews, observes tests, and performs audits to ensure compliance.

  • Support and/or lead the research of technical, operational and quality issues that cannot be resolved by the customer.

  • Review and provide interim and final engineering solutions to return airplanes to airworthy condition.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to conduct root cause analysis and develop dispositions for complex design non-conformances.

  • Assist in the development of customer correspondence for continued safe operation and maintenance of equipment.

  • Assess complex system event reports to determine potential safety issues.

  • Must be able to travel to airlines to lead Technical / Executive review meetings and address complex technical issues.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to this work statement

  • Able and willing to work 2nd shift (24/7/365-day operation. Saturday and Sunday may be required workdays)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • 1+ years of Engineering experience

  • Willing and able to travel 10% of the time domestically and internationally

  • Experience in troubleshooting and root cause analysis

  • Ability to collaborate with multiple team functions

  • Willingness to expand into technical areas without prior experience
