Junior Intellectual Property (IP) Specialist


Position Overview

A premier Intellectual Property law firm located in downtown Washington, DC is seeking a motivated, highly organized, and detail-oriented professional to join our General Prosecution Department as an Entry-Level to Junior IP Specialist.

This position offers an exceptional entry point for an administrative professional looking to establish a long-term, rewarding career within specialized legal practice. We pride ourselves on offering comprehensive, hands-on training covering all aspects of patent prosecution and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) procedures. Prior legal experience is highly valued but not required for an individual with the right foundational skills and eagerness to learn.


Position Type: Full-Time

Schedule: 9:00 AM โ€“ 5:00 PM

Work Structure: High-flexibility hybrid (Primarily remote, with occasional required in-office days)

Salary: $55,000.00 - $75,000.00 DOE

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Document Management: Prepare, proofread, and format formal client correspondence, legal documents, and patent-related applications.
  • USPTO Filings: Learn to accurately prepare and file critical patent prosecution documents directly with the USPTO under firm and government guidelines.
  • Docketing & Data Integrity: Maintain flawless electronic case files, manage critical docketing systems, and ensure absolute data accuracy across firm databases.
  • Operational Support: Assist with administrative workflows, including the coordination and review of client billing documentation.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with patent attorneys, agents, paralegals, and administrative staff to ensure all client needs and rigorous deadlines are met seamlessly.


Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 6 months of administrative, office support, or professional clerical experience. Prior experience within a law firm or professional services environment is preferred but not required.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associateโ€™s or Bachelorโ€™s degree is preferred.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional proofreading, grammar, syntax, and spelling skills, with a commitment to producing error-free work.
  • Organization & Time Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple administrative projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills, including mastery of Microsoft Office applications and an aptitude for learning specialized database systems quickly.
  • Communication: Polished written and verbal communication skills suitable for interacting with internal legal teams and external clients.
