Job description

  1. SUMMARY: The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients with acute and chronic urologic conditions in an ambulatory setting. The RN supports the urology providers in delivering high quality, patient-centered care to a diverse population, including underserved and uninsured patients. Responsibilities include patient assessment, education, care coordination, medication administration, and assisting with urologic procedures.

  1. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of Employee Handbook.
  2. Carry out the meaning of the CSMD Mission and Vision statements.
  3. Practice a culture of safety to reduce or prevent risk of injury, claims, loss or liability by utilizing the Risk Management and Infection Control Plan.
  4. Perform responsibilities with a high-quality standard to yield improved compliance, quality, and patient outcome measures by adhering to the Quality Improvement Plan.
  5. Be present and ready for work as scheduled.
  6. Attend in-service trainings, departmental meetings, and community events.
  7. Work cohesively and maintains open communication with all team members.
  8. Greets patients, families, and providers in a courteous, friendly, and professional manner.
  1. Attain screenings goals for quality measures.
  2. Maintain current credentials.
  3. Ensure proper and sufficient checking and re-checking of blood pressure, if necessary.
  4. Obtain and document urinalysis results, bladder scans and other clinical data.
  1. Correctly administers medications by all routes.
  2. Effectively, comprehensively utilizes the electronic medical record (EMR) entering data, documenting, tracking, and managing patient care.
  3. Works with the operations team members to ensure efficient patient flow.
  4. Comprehensively prepares exam rooms according to clinical standards, specific procedures, and provider's need for all visits.
  5. Ensures providers have everything needed to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.
  6. Performs the intake process of patients by checking vitals and documenting chief complaints/reason for visits in the EMR.
  7. Promptly and accurately documents in the patient's EMR.
  8. Triage patient phone calls and walk-in concerns related to urinary symptoms, catheter issues, hematuria, urinary retention, and post-procedure complications.
  9. Insert, irrigate, and remove urinary catheters (foley, straight, and suprapubic catheters) per providers orders.
  10. Assist providers with office-based procedures such as: cystoscopy, vasectomy, prostate biopsy, urodynamic studies, catheter changes, intravesical treatments.
  11. Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures.
  12. Educate patients and families regarding: urinary tract infections, kidney stones, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), overactive bladder, prostate cancer, catheter care, medication use and side effects, pre- and post-operative instructions.
  13. Reinforce provider treatment plans and encourage adherence.
  14. Coordinate referrals, imaging studies, and specialty consultations with CSMD's referral departments.
  15. Obtain prior authorizations for medications.
  16. Collaborate with primary care providers, specialists, and ancillary staff to ensure continuity of care.
  17. Facilitates office lab tests, blood draws and obtaining other specimens either directly or through coordination with Lab vendor according to Provider's orders and as applicable.
  18. Follows-up on lab orders and ensures appropriate, accurate, timely documentation is available for clinical decision-making.
  19. Tracks request Emergency Room providers and ensures patient's records are documented and their PCP is aware of needs.
  20. Follows clinical standards and guidelines of OSHA, CLIA, NCQA, PCMH, Meaningful Use, HRSA, Joint Commission, and all payor sources.
  21. Follows and actively participates in CareSouth's Quality Management Plan and adheres to standards of improvement accordingly.
  22. Follow CSMD's sterilization processes of instruments.
  23. Ensure proper medication storage, handling, and documentation.
  24. Follows the chain of command with problems and suggestions.
  25. Accepts additional assignments willingly; and assists others as required to meet quality service and productivity expectations.

  1. REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Louisiana.
  2. Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  3. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  4. Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in urology, surgical, or ambulatory care.
  5. Must have knowledge and experience using Electronic Health Records; must have strong computer skills.
