Job description

We are seeking a reliable, experienced Medical Assistant with strong medical front desk skills to join our physician-led primary care clinic in Katy/Fulshear.

This is not an entry-level position. We are specifically looking for someone with recent, hands-on experience in a medical office who can independently manage front desk responsibilities, insurance eligibility verification, EMR workflows, and blood draws.

This is a hands-on hybrid role, with a strong emphasis on front office operations and patient interaction, including phones, scheduling, check-in/check-out, insurance verification, and accurate EMR documentation. The position also requires strong clinical skills, particularly phlebotomy/venipuncture.

You will work directly with a solo physician in a high-quality, patient-centered primary care practice, where reliability, attention to detail, efficiency, communication, and the ability to work independently are essential.

Responsibilities

Front Desk — HIGH PRIORITY

  • Answer phones professionally, manage patient inquiries, and follow up on messages
  • Schedule and reschedule appointments and manage daily clinic flow
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits accurately
  • Check patients in and out efficiently
  • Confirm and update demographics and insurance information
  • Provide excellent in-person and telephone patient service
  • Maintain accurate documentation and patient information in the EMR
  • Assist with routine referrals, records, forms, and administrative workflows

Clinical

  • Room patients, obtain vital signs, and document accurately
  • Perform blood draws/venipuncture confidently and independently
  • Properly collect, label, and process specimens
  • Assist with injections, point-of-care testing, EKGs, labs, and basic procedures
  • Prepare patients and support the physician during visits
  • Maintain clean and organized exam rooms

General

  • Help maintain efficient patient flow throughout the clinic
  • Manage and restock medical and office supplies
  • Maintain an organized clinical and front-office environment
  • Provide professional, compassionate patient care
  • Be willing to assist wherever needed in a small physician-led practice

Required Experience

  • Prior hands-on medical front desk/reception experience
  • Experience with patient scheduling, phones, and check-in/check-out
  • Experience independently verifying insurance eligibility/benefits
  • Strong phlebotomy/venipuncture experience — must be comfortable performing blood draws independently
  • Recent Medical Assistant or comparable outpatient medical-office experience
  • EMR/EHR experience, including documentation, patient messages, and workflow management
  • Strong computer and data-entry skills
  • Excellent patient communication and customer-service skills
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently

This is not an entry-level or training position. Medical Assistant certification is not required; demonstrated hands-on experience and competency are more important than certification.

Preferred

  • Bilingual English/Spanish — highly valued
  • Primary care, family medicine, or internal medicine experience
  • Prior authorization and referral experience
  • Experience with injections, EKGs, and point-of-care testing

What We’re Looking For

  • Reliable and punctual
  • Friendly, confident, and professional with patients
  • Excellent telephone communication
  • Calm and organized when handling multiple responsibilities
  • Detail-oriented and accurate
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Quick learner with good judgment
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude
