Position Summary Information
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. or master's degree in risk management and insurance, finance, economics, management or an aviation-related field from an appropriately accredited institution (e.g., AACSB if degree is from a college of business) by the start of employment.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
Candidates should demonstrate a record of high-quality teaching along with evidence of high-quality industry professional engagement and/or academic experience in aviation-related risk management, insurance, finance or accounting. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential to this position.

The Department of Finance, Banking and Insurance includes more than 20 full-time finance, risk
management/insurance and business law faculty serving approximately 650 undergraduate majors in finance/banking and risk management/insurance. The department also provides classes for the MBA and other graduate programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will provide evidence of an ongoing commitment to excellence in student
instruction and engagement and maintain strong relationships with professional organizations. Non-tenure track faculty typically teach 12 credit hours per semester and serve on department, college, and university committees. The candidate chosen for this position will receive reassigned time from the normal teaching load to lead design and implementation of aviation management programming at App State's Hickory campus.
Evidence of industry and/or academic experience in the field of aviation management with a significant history of industry professional engagement is strongly preferred. Executive-in-Residence is expected to collaborate with the college and department to develop academic program(s) in aviation risk management and related disciplines.

Proposed Date of Hire 01/05/2026 Suggested Salary Range Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. ABD Consideration: N/A - ABD is not applicable for this position. See Minimum Qualifications. ABD Description
ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
