Industrial Hygienist: Entry Level

Criterion Laboratories, Inc. (Criterion) is hiring a full-time Entry Level Industrial Hygienist to join our growing team! At Criterion, we focus on employee development, and even if you have no experience in Industrial Hygiene, we will work to get you trained, licensed, and on the path to growth as part of our accredited internal training program.


Job Summary: Once you complete your initial training, you’ll be visiting worksites in and around the greater Philadelphia region where you’ll start by performing the basics of environmental investigations and monitoring. These projects include monitoring and testing for industrial and environmental hazards like asbestos, lead, and mold. As you grow in your role, you will continue to receive additional training, licenses, more complex work assignments, and increases in pay commensurate with your level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carries out industrial hygiene field measurements to verify levels of asbestos/pollution to verify that workplaces are free from asbestos, lead, and other contaminants
  • Contributes to environmental investigations by conducting sampling according to protocol of various environmental media, including: drinking water, air, building materials, dust, paint chips and more.
  • Conducts limited asbestos surveys.
  • Trains with more experienced Industrial Hygienists, with an emphasis on asbestos and lead abatement projects.
  • Actively engages in training, both in the classroom and in the field, to pursue the required licenses, certifications, and working knowledge to work as an Industrial Hygienist.

This role requires flexibility regarding work location and what time projects begin each day. There are rare instances when some travel, overnight stay, and/or weekend work may be required.

Requirements:

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Understanding of the Scientific Method and Principles of Environmental Science.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interact with clients professionally and with confidence

Required Education, Certifications, and Licenses:

  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle with current driver’s license and proof of insurance
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM discipline
  • Successful candidates must be able to obtain and maintain all needed PA Act 114 clearances (PA State Criminal History Background Check, Federal Criminal History Report and PA Child Abuse Clearance).
  • Ability to interpret floor plans and calculate quantities of materials and square footage

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • This position may require standing, sitting, reaching, crawling, climbing, and squatting
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate/wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) throughout the day
  • Ability to withstand high and low temperatures on-site
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders
