About This Role
An Apprenticeship at Biogen is a pathway to a long-term career in the biopharmaceutical industry. This 24-month program combines hands-on experience within our operations with enrollment in a registered partner community college to further your education. Throughout the program, you will receive customized on-the-job training and mentorship from experienced team members.
As a Manufacturing Maintenance Apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience supporting critical manufacturing operations in a highly regulated biopharmaceutical environment. This apprenticeship opportunity is designed for individuals interested in developing technical maintenance skills while working alongside experienced professionals. You'll learn to maintain, troubleshoot, and improve manufacturing and laboratory equipment while building expertise in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls systems that support life-saving therapies.
What You'll Do
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing and laboratory equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls issues using established procedures and technical guidance.
  • Support reliable equipment operation through root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Partner with Engineering, Validation, Quality, Manufacturing, and Facilities teams to resolve equipment issues and improve system performance.
  • Assist with validation activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Learn to navigate and utilize Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Maintain training compliance and adhere to GMP, safety, and site procedures.
  • Develop proficiency with industrial tools, maintenance practices, and manufacturing systems.

Who You Are
You are eager to learn, mechanically inclined, and motivated to build a career in facilities or manufacturing operations. You thrive in hands-on environments and enjoy solving problems as part of a team.
Required Skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Currently enrolled in, or willing to enroll within 30 days of hire, in a 2- or 4-year academic program
  • Ability to commit and complete an apprenticeship program at an approved community college
    • Preferably a 2 or 4-year program in Mechanical or Electronics Engineer Technology
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, or controls principles.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and industrial repair equipment.
  • Willingness to learn and work in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment
  • Ability to follow technical instructions, safety procedures, and established work practices
  • Attention to detail and ability to complete documentation accurately
  • Ability to work under close supervision in an operational manufacturing or facility environment
  • Physical requirements:
    • Ability to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and lift/move equipment up to 50 lbs.
    • Must be comfortable working in cleanroom environments with required gowning and able to stand for up to 3 hours at a time.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience or interest in cGMP, utilities, manufacturing equipment, low voltage electrical systems, and HVAC systems
  • Exposure to facility or utility systems (HVAC, boilers, water systems, etc.)

Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is: $24.00-$24.00
Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
In addition to compensation, Biogen offers the following benefits:
