Job description

Position Title: Accounting Clerk                                                                            

Department: Finance

Grade Range/Job Status: Full Time /Non-Exempt/Hourly

Reporting Relationship: Finance Director

Supervisory Responsibilities: NA

Typical Schedule: Primarily M-F Days. Must occasionally be willing and able to work flexible hours/days, including evenings and weekends, reflective of the dynamic schedule of the organization.

Position Summary

The Accounting Clerk manages the cashbox, performs clerical tasks for the finance department and performs the tasks related to document imaging. All employees are expected to center, model and champion Hammer’s core values: Person-Centered, Relational, Opportunistic and Stewardship in order to provide people with intellectual and other disabilities, the opportunity to live life to its fullest.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Cashbox
  • Verifies cash requests have proper approvals.
  • Prepares cash for distribution.
  • Disburses cash and obtains signed receipts.
  • Verifies cash returned and receipts for cash spent.
  • Manages and Balances cashbox.
  1. Document Imaging
  • Opens Mail.
  • Scans Documents to imaging software.
  • Labels/Indexes documents.
  • Manages original documents (disposal or archive per policy).

 

  1. Accounts Receivable
  • Prepares weekly check/cash deposits for Finance Director.
  • Enters and applies Custodian Account deposits to accounting system.
  • Enters and applies Budget deposits to accounting system.
  • Enters and applies Travel deposits to accounting system.
  • Creates and distributes monthly Custodian Account statements to staff and guardians.

 

  1. Accounting Support
  • Assists in daily/weekly/monthly tasks as assigned.
  • Assists with annual audit preparation as assigned.

 

Essential Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Entry-level finance experience working for a mid-sized organization.  Formal, informal, and cross-disciplinary experiences will be considered.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated ability to use and adopt technology and a willingness to learn new programs.
  • Requires ability to work independently.
  • Frequently organizes multiple projects requiring organizational skills and close attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including fluency in English.
  • Requires frequent participation in repetitive activities including working for several hours at a time with a keyboard and monitor.
  • Experience, ability, and commitment to working with individuals and teams that are mixed across lines of difference such as race, gender-identity, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, class, and immigrant status.
