Job description

We are looking for an experienced Staff Accountant to support a retail organization in Bentonville, Arkansas through a Long-term Contract assignment. This role is well suited for an accounting specialist who enjoys balancing detailed transactional work with broader financial analysis and reporting. The position will contribute to core close activities, tax-related support, account oversight, and special projects while partnering with leadership and assisting operational teams as needed.
Responsibilities:
• Prepare recurring and non-routine journal entries, maintain supporting schedules, and analyze general ledger activity to ensure accurate financial records.
• Perform account reconciliations and calculate items such as deferred revenue and other accruals as part of the monthly close process.
• Help assemble lot-level income statements and additional financial reports used for internal review and decision-making.
• Complete month-end workpapers and checklist requirements on schedule, confirming that close deliverables are accurate and fully documented.
• Provide backup support for general ledger leadership and respond to accounting needs from operational locations when assistance is required.
• Manage corporate card and prepaid card programs, including administrative oversight, monitoring, and issue resolution.
• Support tax-related activities by assisting with personal property tax filings and preparing estimated tax payment documentation for accounts payable processing.
• Review monthly expenses, evaluate repo-related surplus and deficiency activity, and present findings to accounting leadership.
• Contribute to acquisition-related accounting work, process improvement efforts, and other projects assigned by senior finance leadership.• Detail-oriented experience in staff accounting, senior accounting, or a similar finance role with strong exposure to month-end close activities.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and produce reliable financial reporting with a high level of accuracy.
• Knowledge of tax support functions, including sales and use tax or related payment and filing processes.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate variances, interpret financial data, and recommend practical solutions.
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft 365; experience with Business Central and Continia is preferred.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with leadership, business partners, and entry-level accounting staff.
• Self-directed, hands-on approach with the flexibility to manage routine responsibilities along with changing business priorities.
