JOB SUMMARY:

A Polysomnographic Technologist/Technician works under the general supervision of the Sleep Center Manager to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. A Polysomnographic Technologist can perform the duties defined for a Polysomnographic Technologist/Technician and may provide supervision of other staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform all types of sleep disorder testing, including set-up and performance of nocturnal polysomnograms (PSGs)
  • Must demonstrate working knowledge of polysomnography, Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT), oximetry and administration of supplemental O2, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP and/or Bilevel) studies, and the basics of Sleep Medicine
  • Able to take patient vital signs accurately & recognize cardiac arrhythmias
  • Ability to perform all duties as a Sleep Technician/Technologist in accordance with AASM, ACHC and ELFP's guidelines
  • Operate and calibrate sleep equipment
  • Operate software used to record and evaluate sleep/wake pathology
  • Score polysomnographic recordings in preparation for physician interpretation
  • Apply and remove electrodes and other equipment used in conjunction with polysomnography
  • Clean and disinfect equipment placed on patients on a daily/shift basis
  • Other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required
  • Must be a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or has completed an A-Step program
  • Must have a current BLS card from the American Heart Association, prior to permanent hire date
  • Minimum 3 years full time sleep tech experience
  • Must be personable and treat patients with care and respect
  • The Sleep Tech is able to independently perform job functions
  • Key data into patient electronic medical records
  • Must be able to work quickly and efficiently to assure patient comfort and satisfaction
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the patient(s), and health care team
  • Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language
  • Computer literate with entry level working knowledge of Microsoft Suites; Outlook, Word
  • Computer literate with entry level working knowledge of Philips Respironics Alice 6/G3 sleep software
  • Exceptional problem solving skills
  • Demonstrate ability to organize, coordinate, prioritize, and facilitate many on-going tasks at one time
  • Make outbound and receive inbound telephone calls, and fax correspondence, as needed
  • Inventory and stock medical supplies and materials
  • Adhere to Standard of Care, Code of Conduct, HIPAA Compliance and Confidentiality Agreement
  • Exhibit compassion and professionalism
  • Must be able to report to work as scheduled without delay
  • Attends required meetings, training in-services, and participates in committees as required
  • Continuing Medical Education in accordance with their field of medicine
  • Adult and Pediatric Basic Life Support Certification
