Job Description
Great Basin College (GBC) is seeking a motivated and student-centered Part-Time Instructor for the Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, and EKG (MAPE) Program in Elko. This position plays a key role in preparing students for entry-level healthcare careers through high-quality classroom instruction, lab skills development, and clinical learning experiences aligned with industry standards and certification expectations.
This position reports directly to the Nursing/MAPE Program Director. Flexible scheduling for part-time instruction for varying lab and clinical experiences as approved by the Nursing/MAPE Program Director.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, the candidates must meet one of the following sets of qualifications:
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the state of Nevada or current national certification as a Medical Assistant (unencumbered).
  • Background in medical assisting, nursing, or phlebotomy is strongly preferred; candidates without certification must be willing to obtain the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) credential.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts (typically 6-9 hours) in laboratory and clinical settings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage instruction, evaluation, and documentation.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, collegiality, and a student-focused, supportive teaching approach.
  • Commitment to the mission of Great Basin College and the School of Health Sciences and Behavioral Health.

Responsibilities:
This role serves as part-time faculty for MAPE students and supports all aspects of course delivery, including classroom instruction, laboratory skills, and clinical experiences.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Deliver instruction across lecture, lab, clinical, online, and hybrid learning environments.
  • Support implementation of program curriculum, objectives, and instructional standards in collaboration with the Program Director.
  • Supervise and mentor students in classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical settings, including group and individual instruction.
  • Evaluate student performance and document learning outcomes in alignment with program and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in ongoing training, certification maintenance, and professional development activities.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical site requirements, including immunizations, BLS certification, and documentation through Complio compliance tracking.
  • Participate in credentialing preparation activities aligned with National Healthcareer Association (NHA) examinations as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of program success.

Salary and Benefits:
This is a part-time non-benefits eligible position. This position will not work more than 160 hours in a semester. Instructors will be paid by the class. Rate per class will be paid at a customary rate for the type of instruction.
