Job DescriptionThe Entry-Level AIC Engineer focuses on the design and engineering of automation systems to support manufacturing processes, equipment, critical systems and facility infrastructure. This role will have the ability to successfully support the execution of all phases of design. The individual shall begin to display working knowledge of standard industry Automation/Control System hardware components, and construction document set preparation by generating specifications and data sheets for instrumentation and schematics and plan drawings for control system fabrication and installation. Project work will be under the direction of a more experienced engineer and may include all levels of design such as studies, conceptual and schematic design, design development, construction documentation and construction administration. Tasks will include utilizing computer-aided drafting and engineering software to identify and define automation systems, relevant components and their operational requirements for projects.
Responsibilities
- Works under the direction and guidance of a more experienced engineer to execute design responsibilities.
- Designs automation systems of basic complexity in conformance with code requirements and in coordination with other design disciplines.
- Works closely with other architects, engineers and designers, as well as other internal and external team members to ensure a coordinated, constructible and complete design.
- Performs sizing calculations for control elements, instrumentation/device selections and other engineering calculations of basic complexity as required to confirm project requirements are met.
- Develops automation systems documentation in the form of narratives, reports, drawings and diagrams to be used for construction of basic complexity.
- Utilizes various platforms to execute work, such as Microsoft Office products, available BIM software and instrumentation and automation vendor platforms.
- Attends professional development activities.
- Conducts basic field investigations to integrate the design with existing systems and structures.
- May work on one or more projects simultaneously as directed by a Supervisor.
- ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in discipline-specific area of study (ChemE, ME or EE)
- 0 to 3 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant design firm experience
- Fundamentals of Engineering exam registration or completion
- Fundamental experience with performing instrumentation and controls engineering calculations, and developing and implementing instrumentation and control system design
- Fundamental experience with the electrical code
- Ability to interface with client and external partners
- Fundamental experience conducting field surveys of existing conditions and support of field reporting
- Proficient with fundamental internal cross-discipline project team coordination
- Proficient at fundamental discipline design calculations under the supervision of an Engineer
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
