Saulino Smith Salon

Santa Monica, CA • On-site

Part-time

Posted 11 days ago

Job description

Here’s your revised version with a strong closing comp section and a mentorship-driven finish that actually sells the journey:

About Us

Located just steps from the beach on iconic Ocean Avenue, Saulino Smith Salon is where elevated style meets laid-back coastal energy.

Founded by industry veterans Richard Saulino and Hilary Smith, our salon was built on a simple idea: create a space where top-tier talent delivers exceptional results—without the ego. With over 20 years of combined experience and roots at Fred Segal Salon, they’ve curated a team that treats hair like art and clients like family.

We specialize in customized cuts, dimensional color, and effortlessly modern looks—all in a space that feels equal parts luxury and home. Our goal? Every client walks out feeling as confident as they look.

About the Role

This is not just a “job.” It’s a launchpad.

We’re looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Hair Assistant who’s serious about building a career behind the chair. You’ll work side-by-side with experienced stylists, gaining real-world, hands-on experience in a fast-paced, high-end salon environment.

If you’re the type who asks questions, moves fast, and wants to level up quickly—keep reading.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist stylists with blowouts, color applications, treatments, and daily services

  • Shampoo, condition, and prep clients for services

  • Greet clients and create a welcoming, elevated experience from the moment they walk in

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked workstation

  • Sanitize tools and uphold salon hygiene standards

  • Support front desk operations including scheduling and client flow

  • Learn—constantly—by observing, assisting, and refining your technique

What We’re Looking For

  • Active California Cosmetology License (required)

  • 1–2 years in a salon assistant role (preferred, but not a dealbreaker if you’ve got hustle)

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure

  • Passion for hair, beauty, and continuous growth

  • Team player with a positive, can-do attitude

  • Availability for weekends and flexible hours

What You Get

  • Hands-on training with experienced, high-level stylists

  • Fast-track skill development (this is where you get good—fast)

  • Real exposure to a premium clientele

  • Creative, supportive environment that invests in your growth

  • Networking opportunities within the beauty industry

  • Discounts on salon services and professional products

  • Clear path for advancement behind the chair

Compensation

  • $19 per hour + commission opportunities

Growth & Mentorship

Let’s be real—becoming a great hairstylist can feel overwhelming at first. There’s a lot to learn, and the gap between where you are and where you want to be can feel big.

That’s exactly why we built our culture the way we did.

At Saulino Smith Salon, you’re not just assisting—you’re being coached. You’ll have direct access to mentorship, guidance, and real-time feedback from experienced stylists who want to see you win.

If you’re willing to show up, stay curious, and put in the work—the ceiling here doesn’t exist.

Apply now with your resume and a short note on why you’d be a great fit.
